Omnia in Japan

I Know.... I little off topic. I'm sorry.

I will be traveling to Sakai City, Osaka, Japan in January, for 3 weeks or so. Will my Verizon Omnia work there? Do any of you have experience with that?

Thanks,

chris

Looks like most of the country is covered, so you should be good. I've never actually traveled abroad myself with a phone, but I'd expect it would work based on that map.

Re: Omnia in Japan

I was in Tokyo back in June and I took my phone with me. I did get the roaming symbol on my phone but I could not make out bound calls though. I even received a few text messages but it did not have the name or number of the sender. I would check with Verizon to see which of the roaming plans would allow you to use your phone there.

Re: Omnia in Japan

Thanks folks,

I checked with verizon at the store, and they said that it will work for voice (roaming). For outbound calls, I will have to call customer support, and turn on international dialing. They don't seem to be sure on data though. I guess I can upgrade my data plan from the $30 unlimited, to a $65 unlimited plan, and then it should work. In Japan, they use CDMA for Voice, and UMTS for data.
