[How-To] get Live Services and Market working on WP7 ROM

WP7 without market access is pretty lacking. So now we have a way to make your WP7 ROM really full functioning.

What you're basically doing is branding your phone an HTC HD7 in the registry so that's what the Market sees when you log in.

UPDATE: every ROM in this forum besides the DFT stock ROM comes pre-unlocked with these reg settings in place and the xap installed. After flashing those ROMs just go to step #12 in this tutorial. Again, everything up to step #12 applies ONLY to the DFT ROM.

1) Download the bundled tookit from XDA-Developer member CRACING - HERE

2) Install the WP7 developer tools - HERE UPDATE: try it in XP (see post 2)

3) download and install Zune (free)

4) Plug in your HD2 WP7 phone to your PC and wait till Zune recognizes it.

5) In the tool-kit you should find Chevronwp7.cer. You need to set-up any email address on the phone, then email this file to that email address so that you can open it as an attachment from your phone. Once you open the file it should confirm that it will install the certificate, once it's installed go on to step 6.

6) Make sure your phone is connected to your PC and is recognized by Zune. Keep Zune open for the next steps.

7) Run ChevronWP7.exe to unlock your phone. If you keep getting error messages see post 2 for solutions.

8 Install Tom Xap Installer. When you open it and you see the check mark in the box, it means the program is installed. All it's really doing is adding a registry key, When you uncheck the box you "uninstall" it because it deletes that reg key.

9) Install Connection Setup.xap (right click and install), Touch Xplorer.xap, and XBMODDeployer.xap, make sure you install to device (phone). If you have problems installing it your phone may not actually be unlocked yet (make sure #7 above went well) or no zune connection.

10) Using Touch Xplorer app on your phone, navigate to the My Documents and find the Ringtones folder. Find the file .provxml and copy it. Navigate to the Windows folder and paste the file

11) Go back to your apps on your phone and run Connection Setup. This will install the .provxml file and brand your phone as an HD7.

12) Call Microsoft helpdesk and ask them for a key to activate your phone. It will not work without the key. If they ask you for your phone you can tell them you have an HTC Windows Phone 7 or whatever. People giving their HD2 IMEIs when asked for it have been givin legit codes.

13) Set up your Live ID and put in your code when asked for it. You should be good to go.

trouble with Chevron WP7 unlocker and installing xap files.

1) make sure your phone isn't asleep

2) I have not been able to get this to work on xp, seems like it only works on Vista or 7, let me know if you found otherwise.

3) Make sure you have the WP7 developer tools installed

4) Make sure you are running Microsoft .net 4.0 (free download from microsoft)

5) Make sure you have the latest Zune software, and that it does recognize your phone.

6) make sure you are running it as an administrator (both chevron and tom xap installer)

7) if everything is failing install the reg edit attached to this post.

8 )try to take off "automatic time" in the site set up of WP7 and make sure the correct date is set.

Workaround for installing Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools on Windows XP:
  1. Download the Windows Phone Developer Tools
  2. Extract the contents of the setup package by running vm_web.exe /x and choosing a path to extract to
  3. Go to the folder you extracted to in step 2 and open the file baseline.dat in notepad
  4. Look for the section named [gencomp7788]
  5. Change the value InstallOnLHS from 1 to 0
  6. Change the value InstallOnWinXP from 1 to 0
  7. Save and close baseline.dat
  8. Run setup.exe /web from the folder you extracted to in step 2

restart the phone and try again, I get that every once in a while but that seems to be a WP7 thing, not an HD2 only thing.

I see only "vm_web.exe" file, w/ no "/x" and the same for "setup.exe" is it ok?
