Re: TRAPSTER® WINDOWS MOBILE APP, alerts you as you approach police speed traps.

this is okay for reference but if you're blowing down the highway nothing can compare to the accuracy of a good radar detector. In order for a cop to bust you speeding (or for it to hold up in court anyway) he has to clock you with his radar gun, AND if he's undercover he has to clock you doing that speed for at least a mile for it to go on the ticket as "clocked". It can go in as "estimated" on the ticket and you can still get one, but if the ticket doesn't say you were clocked then it most likely won't hold up in court (trust me I know).

Now if I'm approaching a speed trap going 120 miles an hour do you think I'm going to reach for my phone and try to read a g-damn text message while flying that fast? And if you're going that fast anyway, by the time my data connection logs on and connects, connects to this service, finds that I'm within the area of a trap someone else reported, and sends me a text message to my phone, I'm already going to be flying past him.

I'm sorry but this service doesn't seem safe or logical. Any old radar detector blows this services functionality and ease of use out of the water, waste of time. Sorry if I seem cynical but again I drive a lot, and often drive faster than the speed limit because I'm young, wealthy, and arrogant, and this just seems unsafe.

This is based on a system that people use in Europe but it isn't on a phone. It is a GPS device that they plug into their cigarette lighter in their cars.

Traspter is a good idea but it involves everyone using there app which is not going to happen..If there company drove around the US mapping out the speed traps for you then it would be a great app...With that being said, i wouldn't use it.

+1 to a radar detector. Has saved me a few times in the car... haven't modded one for the bike yet but I have a spare Escort I must mod over the winter.

WHAT TYPES OF MOBILE PHONES DOES TRAPSTER SUPPORT?

* iPhone
* BlackBerry
* Android (the TMobile G1 and others)
* Nokia N95, N96, N97, 5800, E71, and other Symbian s60 phones
* Unlocked J2ME phones with GPS (for example the TMobile Sony Ericsson W370)
* Palm Pre and Windows Mobile versions coming soon!

WHY YOU NEED TRAPSTER EVEN IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A RADAR DETECTOR.

Even the latest, most expensive radar detectors are useless against modern police enforcement technologies such as instant-on and laser. Your radar/laser detector will still beep, but in almost all cases, only after it is too late. The only way a radar or laser detector can help you is if it beeps in time for you to slow down before the officer gets a reading on your speed. With instant-on and laser, this only happens if the officer activates early or "misses" the shot, and some of the signal leaks past a car in front of you. Radar detectors are still effective for more traditional (Ka etc.) band radar. We recommend that you use both Trapster and a radar/laser detector for the best possible coverage. Also radar detectors are illegal in many US states, and are illegal nationwide for commercial vehicles.

TRAPSTER WORKS ON GARMIN AND TOMTOM.

After about a gazillion of you (our users) asked for Garmin and TomTom support, we implemented it! While other sites charge money for this data, we offer it absolutely free (for personal use by individual registered users). Check out our innovative approach to setting areas, routes, and alert types of interest, and for POI Mailer automated notifications! Note: Static trap types such as red light cameras and known police enforcement points stay in the same place for years. But real time trap types such as the motorcycle police with laser, a mobile speed van, or a checkpoint, move from place to place every few hours. Garmin and TomTom navigation devices are not connected, so our servers cannot deliver real time data to them. Therefore we suggest you additionally use our location based text message system to be alerted to the trap types that are not static in nature.

I had Trapster in a custom ROM that I flashed on my TouchPro last December. Think it was KK's loaded ROM...so I wouldn't say that it JUST came out. I used it for about 2 weeks back then...and it didn't impress me. I might try it out now that its got another year under its belt.

As it is right now, the best way out there to find a speed trap is a Valentine One... It's the shiz and has saved my *** more times than I can count.

with this type of attitude how will it get more popular? If everybody had this outlook on new software nothing would every get popular. There as to be a start somewhere. Do you only follow the big trends and not help start new ones? I consider myself a trend setter and i will use trapster and be happy with it so when everybody else is using it i can say i have had it for a while now

+1 to you sir...

just logged back into my Trapster account from last year...and the ones...I...reported are still there. Looks like there is more meat to the app now...and it definitely worth installation to check it out. Besides, can't argue with FREE...

from my account map...I can see that its covering BOTH surface streets and highway now. The service definitely is using Google Maps...along with street view to give you an "eyeball" of the area in question.
