Which Registry Editor?

So I want to change the registry on a couple of items, but I can't seem to find a good free registry editor. Which one do you all recommend? Evidently my old grey hairs must be preventing me from finding one through searching. Thanks in advance!

The PHM editor works great on my TP2.

SKTools. Does a lot more than a registry editor, but from a reg editor perspective it has some great options...export registry key to a .reg file, convert a REG to a CAB, etc. The other recommendations offered above may do some or all of this too. I can only comment on what I use.

I also use to use the Resco Explorer registry plug-in. That worked really well as a basic editor, and was a great / logical extension of the explorer app itself i.e. it was integrated right into Resco Explorer and just showed the registry hives as extra expandable folders.

I have used Total Commander for my registry edits, but I've noticed that with SKtools, some of the cleanups have actually deleted some of my important key entries. They tell you they aren't important ones, but it turns out that it deleted some file associations and my default web browser keys.

Yuck! Personally, from a registry tools perspective only, I only use SKTools to edit the registry, plus export keys and convert exported keys to cabs. I never 'optimize' the registry using any tools that may be included in SKTools...and for good reason by tbe sounds of it (:

I agree with both of these suggestions. I also love SOTI Pocket Controller for navigating and editing the registry directly from my laptop. It's so much easier to do a bunch of changes all at once.

CeRegEditor will do that too...allow you to edit your WM registry from your desktop.

I know you said free editors but i use resco explorer. its not free but they have a trial period of 2 months or so with no annoying pop ups. The thing is everytime you do a hard reset the trial starts over. I for sure will cook a new rom or have to do a hard reset before 2 months is over, so i never need to worry about my trial ending. To be honest i probably flash a new rom every week or so on my tp1 so with the tp2 it will be the same thing.

According to their website it's only 7-days. I always register it right away so I've never tested to see if it actually enforces it or not.

I checked the website and you're right. its strange i downloaded this cab about 1 year ago from their website and its the only reg editor i've ever used and its never forced me to register. hopefully this doesn't jinx me but i've had my sprint tp2 since day 1 and have been making reg edits ever since.

Doing this from the desktop seems a lot easier, so I checked them out.

Do you know if this will work on Vista systems, via Windows Mobile Device Center (the Vista replacement for Active Sync)? The CeRegEditor website doesn't specify.

Does work for me on Vista Enterprise (didn't try it on Ultimate at home)...

i use the registry explorer plug in for resco explorer. both explorers have big icons which makes it finger friendly.... for me, resco is a lot easier, because of it search feature.

+1 on Resco Registry Editor.

BTW - Thread moved to the software forum. Remember to search as well - there are a few threads about this. Thanks :)

I used it long ago and moved on. There does not appear to be any recent updates. A link: http://freewareppc.com/utilities/phm...ryeditor.shtml and another link to a similar application: http://www.clickapps.com/moreinfo.ht...28&section=PPC

Thanks for the link! =D>

The PPCfreeware link is still a good one for PHM. (watch out for the pop-up windows though) The original author's site is apparently gone now.
