can anyone recomend some free texting programs

Sorry, should have been a little more specific.
I have unlimited data, old 15 dollar sprint plan. Just don't want to pay for text. I know of sites that let you send text, what I want is to be able to receive texts without being charged for them. |

There are several sites out there that allow you to send text messages for free, but most do not actually allow you to receive. However, both AIM and the new Google Voice allow you to send and receive for free.
To send a text message, open up a new IM window and type +1 and then the cell phone number. For example, if I wanted to send a text message 999-555-1212, I would type +19995551212 and then type the message in the box. The message will be sent to the person's phone. When they respond, you will receive an IM with the response. You can continue to talk using this IM window. To use Google Voice for IM, you need to first obtain a Google Voice account. You can then log in, select SMS and type the phone number you want to text. Type the message and click Send. You can refresh your screen to see when the response comes back. You could also possibly use Gmail to send a text, if that feature is included in the mobile version. I don't recall at the moment. I know it is in the desktop version. Out of the options the two of you suggested, AIM and Google seem to be what I'm looking for. Signed up for a google invite, that might take a few. Now I just need to find AIM mobile. Thanks for your help you two.

AIM works nice. Terrible interface and lags a bit due to how fast I type. Looking forward to Google Voice when the invite comea through. Thanks again.

you can add unlimited texting for like 10 bucks a month to an old data plan i believe. thats what i have anyways... and on top of it, sprint credits me the 10 bucks, because i had an old data plan that included texting for 15, but when they switched me to powervision when i got the m1, it didn't have texting anymore, so i get credits every month now.

y sJust use your email client to send the messages. If you want free incoming, simply send it from your hotmail account, and set the checking frequency to "As Items Arrive". You will then have free incoming and outgoing text messages.
To send a text message via email, just substitute a 10-digit cell number for ‘number’ for each carrier below:
