Dorothy Browser

Sup guys, look what I found. It's a new WebKit-based browser for Windows Mobile. Full HTML browser with no transcoding server. It's actually pretty fast, but still lacks usability features at the moment, such as kinetic scrolling and text reflowing. Still, an interesting browser!

It's in closed beta for now. You'll need to register and they'll send you a download link. I got mine within minutes, but I can't guarantee anything since I'm not affiliated. :P

They claim WVGA only, although my Diamond runs it just fine.

is this statement from D browser site true?

On Windows Mobile 6.1, Dorothy's page loading is 300% faster
than Opera Mobile 9.5.:evil3:

Re: Dorothy Browser

sometimes faster, sometimes slower. All in all still fairly buggy, but I think they'll be able to fix things over time.

Re: Dorothy Browser

lol we have so many browsers now. I'd trade them all in for one that wasn't in Beta or didn't have bugs.

I hear this one is like Iris, which I use daily.

LOL how cute- the icon is a little witch's hat.

Works pretty well though, pretty quick, though DEFINITELY very beta.

They're working on a resolution independent version. Check out the thread at XDA, they have a rep who posts updates there.

I'm having display issues with the browser. I have a VZW Omnia i910 flashed with BW 1.4 NeoTitanium WM6.5.

I understand there's no QVGA support, however I think I read that other omnia users were using Dorothy without issue. I've attached what I see.

Any help is appreciated - i'm intrigued by the webkit browsers, and was sad to hear that Iris won't be further developed for WinMo devices. So far I like what I see (but I can't see much  )

Re: Dorothy Browser

I'm looking for a browser usable with WM6.5 which takes as little memory as possible. IE Mobile is a memory hog and Opera seems to be just as bad. Both take so much memory that they run REALLY slow.
How is Dorothy on memory usage? Anybody know?

Cant really help you with the Dorothy browser (never really used it much) but if you're looking for a fast & light weight browser, check out Opera Mini 4.2. Cant hurt to try :) Its been my favorite browser for years.

Re: Dorothy Browser

UCWeb has been talked about a lot, but it doesn't compare to Dorothy, Opera Mobile or Iris because it's uses server-side trancoding, like Opera Mini and Skyfire.

Re: Dorothy Browser

Has anyone else been having problems downloading the update to Dorthy? It'll download about 20-30% of it then say download fail and take me back to the browser.

Re: Dorothy Browser

The download worked fine for me and installation was a snap.. just move the .cab file to my PPC and click on it.. Even a Noob like me can do it:newb:

Same here, no luck. Like you said, it had worked fine, but errored out with connection issues. Kinda gave up on it a month or so ago. I agree with ya on the dorothy browser also, it looks great, Hope it continues to improve. Could be a great replacement to iris.

Same thing happened to me with Mach 5, which sucks cause it was my favorite for a while. It happened right when they said the beta version would expire. I went on their website with the intention of buying it (depending on price) but there was no info. I think its gone for now... Please let me know if you guys find anything about it, I would love to try it again

Hey there. I actuallly did inquire about purchasing mach 5 to the developer. He sent an email back saying it would only be available in that country (china or japan, i forget) and that it would be a monthly subscription to be purchased with prepaid type cards. :(

@agentmikeyd i dont know of a way to have kinetic scrolling with opera mini on windows mobile. although i did read that symbian has/might get kinetic scrolling for mini.

Downloading right now. Can't wait to see how it works and what kind of damage I can do to it when I try to customize.

Dorothy has been updated to version 1.0. Man has there been alot of updated browsers of late! Here's some updated information: http://pocketnow.com/software-1/doro...n-10-available

also attaching the cab. It's the vga/wvga cab. Haven't played around with it much but it looks promising. Good luck.
