What ever happened to Dashwire?

.I remember that Dashwire used to belong here, howard forums and sprintusers forums to name a few. They would check them everyday and all... Now they started their own forums and dont even update any of it... I thought Dashwire was dad and just runnin until the servers turn off... But i read that they got an investment of only 1 million dollars... which is small.... i did a google search found they are located at 936 N 34th St, Seattle, WA 98103, USA and that they are looking for programers,,, But it appears as if they are dead for not being as responsive to us... i think they are doing the s60 platform and not into windows mobile... hope they do an webos one for palm.

I stopped using it when it started messing up the info for my contacts. Microsoft MyPhone is working fine for me now for what I need.

i hate myphone as it only offers 20mb of storage and a phone with 4gb of internal storage myphone wont do, i can have 2gb of ringtones! Dashwire does all my ringtones but only those on the main storage... i swap rings between internal and main all the time....

Dashwire never failed me...

I agree with Caleb, MyPhone has a puny amount of Space...Why won't they give us the space they allow SkyDrive? Stupid really...

Space is all that stops me from using MyPhone...

well, howard and su started long before ppcgeeks, infact that's where many of the the vets migrated from. some still roam everywhere. others have found other projects to call home.

infact I just spotted a well recognized veteran geek in the wild... (points to anyone to guess who/where, created some cool tools back in the treo/apache days. )

as for dashwire. :b
great when there were few options, but there are many now..

myphone = (-10) for microsoft reinventing the wheel again.
dashwire = 0 decent for some. been distracted by other o/s's but I guess that's a + to some.
google = +3 exchange sync contacts/(1)calendar
mortscript+sktools = +20

There are no other online services that do all that dashwire does. granted dashwire does not do contacts, but, it does backup all other stuff rings, text, call, contacts. Their needs to be a service that backs up the entire phone that has 2tb of storage space for multiple backups.

you talking about this site. http://www.everythingdiamond.info
the guy created it after he was let go for some reason from here... according to a post he states:http://www.everythingdiamond.info/showthread.php?t=614
"OK, so here is the deal. I am not singling anybody or any group of people out. I created this site out of pure hobby. Not to compete with PPCGeeks. I will be more than happy to host anything or anyone's work as it doesn't break the 2 rules of this site. No warez and respect each member. That last one has seemed to forgotten somewhere between the 2 sites. So, I will be deleting the two treads about PPCGeeks for the sole purpose of a fresh start and putting the past in the past.

I just think that we can live in harmony and if someone gets banned over there, they are more than welcome to come here. Grant it, there are a couple scenarios when I wouldn't allow it, but that would be a call I would make when it is brought to my attention.

So, I said this once before and I don't want to do anything drastic. Everybody just get along and please no more bashing on members or PPCGeeks.

Also, I will keep this thread open for discussion as long as it doesn't turn into the other threads."

Dashwire never fail me either, but i also use Flexilis, this little up makes a backup of your data like dashwire and then you can restore it back you your device, Flexilis also offers antivirus protection, firewall and missing device protection, best of it all is free.

Dashwire saves my contacts. I've been using it for about ten months. Tried My Phone, but I got tried of it putting stuff back on my that I deleted on purpose. After one sync, I had quadruple entries for every contact on my phone. The stupid program did this to me on five occasions. Never tried it again.

What is that?

Re: What ever happened to Dashwire?

Strangely enough, MyPhone is the first application, besides ActiveSync subsription), that I didn't have this problem with. Both Flexilis and Dashwire would give me 5x of every contact I had, regardless of the DELETE status, (with those apps, I had to delete it both on my phone and the online interface, while with MyPhone, I only need to select one source to delete from, and they automatically sync at midnight).

If the only issue with Flexilis would have been that, I could have lived with it, but it was never able to OTA sync with my phone, and doing location finds, (when the phone is in my pocket and I knew exactly where it was, wouldn't produce anything, and "sound alarm" didn't do anything either. Flexilis's concept is sound, but the actual implementation is utterly useless. For my archival needs, I'll either use MyPhone combined with pull IMAP email, or ActiveSync. Dashwire and Flexilis are good concepts, but they are too damned buggy for what I demand. Unfortunately, the only free option that is actually worth a damn is MyPhone. Everything else I have tried has proven worthless.

Well I use sashimi but I didnt know you could restore .vol files with it.

k_semler 09-18-2009 11:03 PM

Re: What ever happened to Dashwire?

You can restore *.vol files manually. Just copy the ones you want to keep to an external medium, (HDD or flash card), and once you need to restore them, change the existing *.vol files to have the extenstion of *.bak, copy over the *.vol files you have archived back to the root of your device, and soft-reset. After your phone has restarted, delete the *.bak files, and reset once again. Your phone will now have all data that was there prior to the event that necessitated a restoration in the first place.
