accurate weather info??
weather panel is my all time favorite weather program by far, but it does not seem very accurate on displaying the current temp in my area at times(rochester, NY) At other times, it is right on.
This morning when I went outside at work it really felt hot. I updated weather panel & then compared it to some other options. Here is what I came up with: 1. weather panel said the current temp was 71º 2. TF3D2 rhodium said it was 72º 3. weather underground said it was 74º 4. weather bug said it was 79º (that is about what I would have guessed it was) What have all you guys found to be the most accurate weather info in your areas?? ~John |
Re: accurate weather info??
I'd have to say WP is the most accurate in L.A. It comes closest to what the weather gurus forecast. SPB weather is often 5 degrees or more off.

Re: accurate weather info??
PocketWeather is the best. they use metar stations.

Re: accurate weather info??
Yea, SPB weather is a joke IMHO. I don't even have it installed anymore.
I have found as far as the actual forecast for the upcoming weather that weather underground is the most consistently accurate. In this area however, weather bug (on my PC) is almost always right on for the current temp. I'm sure that is partly because WB gives you so many different locations to pick from & at least around here there is always one right nearby where you are actually located instead of a general area done by zip code (one of the locations is a school that is five minutes from my house). ~John |

Has it improved any since then?? ~John |
Re: accurate weather info??
My experience is that the National Weather Service is the most accurate in their forecasts, and in my area they use the county airport for the temps. In order to have the most relevant local temp, I use weather underground (mobile), because they have a reporting station about a half mile away.

Re: accurate weather info??
I havent tried all the options that u have but WP is pretty accurate in my area. Usually all the temps from various sources are within 2 degrees of each other so its ok i guess. I have weather on my pc, WP, and my truck and they are all pretty close. Ill check some other places and let u know.

Re: accurate weather info??
I just updated weather panel again & it's STILL claiming it's 71º
My weather bug is now up to 80º & that feels about right. Weather underground now says it's 77º ~John |

Re: accurate weather info??
What we really need for the most accurate temp. reading, and I'm predicting it won't be too far off, is a thermometer built into the phone. Just press a button or tap an icon and the current air temp. displays on your screen. Digital thermometers are getting smaller and smaller, and a good portion of the size is attributted to the battery and read out, which phones already have. The sensors themselves are small. Of course the temp reading will only be as accurate as the sensor.
Does anyone know if a phone with a thermometer already exists? I figured someone would have thought of it by now. If not, you heard it here first. |

Re: accurate weather info??
I'm in NYC and current temp has been very good. usually I can trust slight difference between Queens and Manhattan (about 10mi away ) Most other Apps weren't as accurate as WP. Long live WP.

Re: accurate weather info??
Weather Panel has always been reliable in my area, San Antonio. I usually would have WP rotate through locations around the town and all had similar temps. Plus it would predict rain better than any of our local weathermen. This is the app I miss most now that I am on a Palm Pre.

Re: accurate weather info??
I have WP on my Qtek S200 and my wife has Pocket Weather on her HTC S620 smartphone.
The same update location: military airport Kleine Brogel(Belgium) Update time: 5.30 PM on both phones. WP tomorrow: high 26°C low : 13°C PW tomorrow: high 26°C low : 14°C Just want to add that the Misses is sad because she misses her animated weather icons of WP on her old Qtek S100. I tried to install WP on het smartphone together with WP Pilot because she has no touch screen) but I can't finish the setup of WP. :-( |
