PointUI Home 2 Pro Finally Released

Did a quick search and didn't find anything, but it looks like they finally released the PRO edition. I'm not sure if I'm ready to switch again, since I just took the plunge on MS3, but I'm going to take a look. The basic was a decent item.

It definitely seems to be a lot better in the skinning department.

A free trial would be nice. Just to see if the differences between pro and free are worth twenty of my hard earned dollars.

Isn't this the Free Version?

**EDITED*
I just noticed you were looking for a free trial of the Pro version, that does suck you can't at least try all the features for a limited time.

Re: PointUI Home 2 Pro Finally Released

when it comes to the interface all i know is that the pro version has the built in contact card and the messaging window to get rid of the links to ugly winmo apps that the free version had

anything else new that i missed?

Pro IN PROGRESS
  • [IN PROGRESS] Investigating HW acceleration
    • WM has terrible support for OpenGL ES, we are now going to build apps for the N95 or iPhone :) check out glbenchmark.com to be saddened by the dismal effort on WM devices
  • [IN PROGRESS] Memory management techniques for theme graphics
  • [IN PROGRESS] New tool to allow packaging of theme graphics in single file in organized format so no program memory is required for all theme graphics
Applet/Theme Store
  • Website to allow uploading of themes and applets by devs to be published to Home users
  • Additional screens in Home to allow browsing and installing of applets and themes

Yeah, I didn't notice there was no trial. That kind of sucks, hopefully they add one.

You know, the trial is the _only_ reason why I'm not buying it?

So you bought the full version?

Seems a bit dumb to have a $19 UI for winmo, but not to have a demo video or better visual documentation of the pro features.

Hah, it's funny you mentioned that because that's exactly why I opened this thread; to comment on how they expect money for a product that doesn't even have a demo video.

Yeah the two enthusiast videos in youtube for the free version make it look interesting but lack of a better video or even screen shots of the contact card and pro elements which could make it a serious contender and money maker just seems either conspicuous or stupid....

Or a bait 'n' switch tactic.

Well I bought it. It's only 20 bucks and as far as all my flashing and testing this UI is very functional. All the others have bells and whistles and look pretty. When it all comes down to it with pointui2 pro I can push some icons with ease and know where I am going. It works well and is intuitive. You can make it look how you want with themes and applets for funtionality. Someone else mentioned how lost you can get on MS3 unless you customize for hours maybe. Even after getting over the clean look of WM 6.5 at the end of the day it's still not as efficient as PUI2. I am running the new merdinH 6.5 beta while on an out of town business trip and have had no real issues I can think of. The pro version's features are worth the cash. I wish more chefs...would take a closer look at home2 pro and dump touchflo altogether.

Every so often, I retry it to see if there's something I missed to take away the battery drain or the freezeups on my Treo Pro (both reported on a variety of phones, as well). Since they say outright that the $20 is NOT refundable, they need to get the Pointui chefs fixing the bugs in the free version. I can't see wasting my $20 on something that may professionally freeze up my phone & professionally drain my battery.

Re: PointUI Home 2 Pro Finally Released

If you guys want it, there's always a way to "try out the pro version for free" as it is already available on "that site" :) I just downloaded the pro version, and after only playing around with it for 20 minutes, I already have all my customizations including themes and extra applets all set up. I have full screen enabled, so no start menu at the top, as all that is available up there can be done through different applets. The overall interface is extremely slick, and I will probably go back and pay for it now. If anybody wants link, pm me, as discussion of this kind is not tolerated in the forums. Overall, would highly recommend to someone who wants a change from TF3D, and just letting you know that it also works perfectly with WM6.5.

sometimes I Think if that other site didn't exist, I might be owning an Iphone. The amount of apps they have coming out are ridiculous.

Re: PointUI Home 2 Pro Finally Released

I didn't even bother trying the "free Pro version" much. I just went straight to buying it, seeing how quickly I customized the free version.

PointUI for the win! Although, I wish they'd taken a different business model, based on a free (and possibly open source) engine and paid applets. I mean, the interface is great and all, but at the moment, most applets are either redundant or offer little innovative functionality. Whipping up awesome applets and selling them might be a better way to go for all of us.

Yeah I have been using Windows CE ever since it was first released on the Phillips Nino prob 15 years ago. I really like winmo but it has really been a dissapointment. The evolution is terrible 2.0-6.5 not that much has changed... I remember on the Ipaq the poor graphics performace and people *****ing about drivers, then I get this "badass" Touch pro only to find out that the graphic drivers are crap. Even the text lags wtf even the crappiest devices can keep up with human typing.... i.e. The email client is terrible, graphics don't scale so if someone sends you and html email with a graphic embeded with text you cant even see it.

I just bought my wife a Touch 2G and the email client alone KILLS winmo much less all the apps that smoke any winmo app. The only thing I dont like so far is the inability to run background apps and the notifications system not haiving a simple nooze interval selection when it comes up.

I got my wife a touch pro when they came out and within a week she was killing me about how difficult it was to use and how crappy the battery was so it got returned. She picked up the touch and there was almost no learning curve, an invalid could figure it out.

I still love my Touch pro even with all of its shortcomings. By far the best winmo device I've ever had, but when my contract is up in Nov It will def be a pre or Iphone 4G as it looks like Winmo 7 will be too little too late and unfortunately MS's lack of foresight will end up causing WM to wither away to oblivion like it has already been doing for the past few years.

I use this UI for my Epix. But after it screen locks and I wake it up, the UI does not display and the screen is stuck. Anyone else have this problem with the free version?

IIRC, the Epix is 320x320 like my GSM Treo Pro. I had similar issues, went back to a version of Manila 2D modded for a 320x320 screen. We'll see if I change if & when the Pointui team gets it together for our screen resolution. There were also battery drain issues.

Re: PointUI Home 2 Pro Finally Released

Ok, so I took the plunge and installed Home. One thing that's straight away not attractive to me is how it doesn't have the text message preview like TF3D does. It only shows the first few words of the text/email, and then when you click it, it opens the native WinMo app for it, in this case SMS (which I don't like btw, I wish TF3D had isn't own "reply" within the text message envelope or something)

The Pro version shows the entire message in it's own app, not the WinMo one. And if you try some of the applets, they have one for messaging that is pretty good.

I'm confident that it doesn't show the entire message in it's own app because of what everyone on their forum is saying. Regarding the messaging applet, which one is it?

Re: PointUI Home 2 Pro Finally Released

Even the help on it says "Tapping on the message will take you to it's native SMS or email application"
