Slingbox Mobile problem??
My Roadrunner cable connection went down for 4 hours this morning & now my Sling Mobile setup won't connect.
I have reset my Linksys WRT 160 router (about 4 times), reset the Sling box (about 4 times) & run the setup assistant & it fails every single time when I get to the remote viewing test. When I got this router, the setup assistant set it up totally automatically & the remote viewing worked almost immediately. Now i can't get it to work to save my life. The router is working fine on my LAN (4 computers, three printers etc etc & the Slingbox shows it's connected & working fine in the Linksys adviser) ~John |
Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
Are you doing a HARD reset, or just unplugging it and plugging it back in? I have problems with my connection sometimes and what has always worked for me is, in this order:
Unplug modem, unplug Router, and unplug the slingbox. Let everything sit for 2 mins or so. Then plug in your modem, let it sit for a min. Plug in your router, let it sit for minute, then plug in your slingbox. Give that a shot- |
Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
I hate it when that happens. :( im not sure if this the same issue/fix, but i had to readjust my port settings on slingbox that was on my desktop. Just throwing that out there.

Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
Did ya try reinstalling the slingbox cab?

Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
No I meant a hard reset on the router. It will have to be setup again, but then the port would be opened by the slingbox. You said your laptop connects, but is that when you are on your home network? If thats the case, then it is something with your router. If your laptop connects when outside the network, then it is something with your phone. Which one is it?

When I use the setup assistant, it gets to the "internet viewing" part of the setup & then it messes up when it says it is going to connect to the router. When the router was new (which was not long ago) it breezed right through that step automatically (& it only took a few seconds) & then everything worked (it never asked what router it was). Now, it is not id'ing the router, it says it needs to be set up manually. I put all the settings in, hit next & then it says the internet viewing did not complete & mobile viewing will not be available (& they're right, it isn't......) ~John |

Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
Oops, thanked you for your response-:) Run the setup assistant on the slingbox again, it should setup the router automatically for you. Try that and report back-We'll get you going tonight :)

I HATE to hard reset the router as it was a MAJOR PITA getting everything on the LAN working together when I installed the router, but it looks like I will have to (that's the only thing I haven't tried yet) ~John |
Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
I dont know about you guys, i love slingbox and i think its one of the best apps available for our phone, but when things go wrong, they seem to go "really" wrong. Can get frusterating.

Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
Hold up, do you know how to login to your router? If so, go to your port forwards and see if you have a forward setup for something like "sb04838fye85" with port 5001 forwarding to 192.168.0.254 or some other number. Just make sure you have 5001 forwarding to your slingbox. You will also have to look in your router to see what it is assigning your SB as an IP address.

It assigned the address 192.168.1.254 to the SB ~John |
Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
If you can, make sure that uPnP is enabled. If it isn't then the slingbox can't set the port forwarding up. If you can't find that, find out the ip address of the sb and setup a port forward to it with 5001 being the port. That will do it for you-

uPnP was enabled & it still didn't work, but telling it to port forward port 5001 to 192.168.1.254 worked.. ~John |

It can certainly be annoying, but it doesn't hold s candle to the problems I had when I bought a POS Hava setup............. ~John |
Re: Slingbox Mobile problem??
I was using a Linksys router that I hacked to be a repeater. SB worked fine for a month or so, then I would have to reboot it. Not a problem until I wanted to watch something and couldn't connect. So I went hard wired and haven't had a problem since. Yeah, they are stable, but when they go down, they go down in a blaze of glory....

I had mine hooked up wirelessly with one of those Slinglink setups & that didn't work for sh!t, but now the SB is hard wired directly to the router & has worked perfectly until RR had a massive outage yesterday. ~John |
