Touchpal Beta 4 is out for testing!!!

Yes folks, the wait for the next version is over, and CooTek has released the beta on their forum. I'm personally still deciding if I like it because of some radical change to the interface, and the beta has some installation issues but if you want to try it out and help CooTek with suggestions you can get it here: http://www.cootek.com/forum/forum_po...p?TID=854&PN=1

Make sure you BU your system before trying this (of course that applies to most any app really)

I really love TP 3.5 & I made the mistake of installing the first version of the beta 4 & now I can't get rid of it. I installed it & tried it for a few days & decided to go back to my old setup but now 3.5 won't reinstall in my system.

I tried reinstalling 3.5 & the end of the install failed something like six times in a row so I had to reinstall the newer version.

I do have a Sprite BU of the system but I'm not sure how current it is, so I don't really feel like restoring it right this minute.

Re: Touchpal: V4 Public test version has been released

I did the same thing, except I backed up BEFORE I installed. Good thing too, because I hate the way they moved all the symbols (,!" etc) to the bottom and put the numbers as downswipes. I really didn't mind the up/down for numbers because I always toggled the 123 tab for that. So, I reverted to 3.5 with restoring my backup(Thanks SPB!0 and emailed them with my comments/concerns. I also noticed that about 99% of all the complaints everybody has made I share as well. It's like moving the keys on your desktop to new places and trying to type without looking.

Glad I didn't install it on a whim! The layout definitely seems like a dealbreaker. I use punctuation much more than numbers. If I use numbers it's usually a few at a time so up/down swipe isn't a big deal. If I'm entering a lot of numbers I always switch to the 123. Anyone seeing any improvements?

I got an email from CooTek with the solution for those who want to revert back to 3.5 but can't.

Quote:

If you want to revert to V3.5 for any reason after trying out V4, and if it doesn't work as you expected, please follow the steps below:

1. Uninstall TouchPal from Settings->Remove Applicatoins
2. Go to "Program Files\TouchPal\Surface", backup the user dictionary files under the language folders.
3. Delete the "Surface" folder
4. Soft reset
5. Install TouchPal V3.5
6. Restore your user dictionary
7. Soft reset to make it effective.

Well, that doesn't work.

I went through that whole procedure, ran the 3.5 cab & at the very end after I selected VGA screen, it tries to open a help screen which always gives a page unavailable error & then it says "installation was unsuccessful"

I just had to reinstall the new version again (which installs just fine) as the above procedure left me with no TouchPal at all..............
