SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

Hi,

SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 has finally been released and after playing with it for a week or so I think it is the best shell application for Windows Mobile.
=D>

I prefer it over the TouchFlo3D because of the way it is desgined but mostly because of the speed. It is working extremely fast!

(I actually removed TF3D and replaced it with the older version as well, and version 3.0 is even better than the previous ones).

What do you think? Would you replace your TouchFlo with Mobile Shell?

Re: SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

I currently use M2D and have played with the beta Shell 3. For me the key is the ability to easily customize the UI to my liking. So with Shell 3 I want to specify which "faces" I see on the carousel. I don't want both the widget and the professional faces; just one or the other (I really like the Widget one). And I don't want to click the launcher and have the "recent applicaitons" list; I just want to specify a list of applications to launch via their icons - sorted in the order I want. Hoping to maybe see more of this kind of customization in the released version.

i have both on my phone at the moment. i have always been a huge touch flo fan, its one of the reasons i got the touch pro. the efficiency and ease/speed of mobile shell 3 is much better than touch flo in my opinioin but sometimes i want the eye candy of touch flo. really just depends on my mood i guess but i just switch back and forth and get the best of both worlds

MS3 seems to eat my battery more than TF3D actually but I will continue to try it out. I don't like TF3D very much and I know people will start customizing MS3

Re: SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

Ive been using ms3 since the day it leaked. Im thinking of switching back to tf3d though for a couple reasons. 1 I miss being able to preview my texts and emails before entering the application. 2 It takes FOREVER to swich from portrait to landscape modes. Almost like it was tested on the diamond and just made usable for the pro. Im hoping skins will fix the first issue and updates the second. also why isnt there a poll on this?

Re: SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

I like it more than TF3D but I wholeheartedly agree with racemepls about it being far to slow switching between portrait and landscape. Previewing texts and email is a nice feature of TF3D to but the customizability of MS3 is miles above anything else

Re: SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

I was using manila2d before switching to this, and like others stated, there are plenty of pros and cons for each. However, I think I'll be sticking with MS3, the customizations should only get better as more people tinker with it.. I'm sure things like the recent programs list and such will get some regedits to them eventually.

Someone already found that you can add more pages/screens to the lifestyle screen by changing the value at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Widgets\HomeScreen\PageCount value to number of screens

I have seen this app on a friends phone and just put it on mine the other day, but I still prefer the touchflo 3d. Don't get me wrong it is an awesome app and the design is crazy, but I just like the tf3d for some reason. Mine is very fast and never lags, but some people have different experiences.

I wonder if previewing texts and emails will be possible in MS3 in the future with a new widget either form SPB or 3rd party.

SPB is definitely faster but I just prefer the simplicity of Touch Flo, I have already installed and uninstalled SPB twice, I can't get used to it.

Re: SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

Just curious, has TF3D2 changed much from the original TF3D? Can you add different items to each tab or is it still "fixed" (ie... dedicated tab for weather, text, applications, etc).

Re: SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

I loaded mobile shell and found the customization options of the new version nice. It kind of reminds me of my days with a Mogul and Wisebar.

I just couldn't get used to MS as a TF3D replacement. I like being able to read text/ email message previews and play music from TF. MS just cant compete with TF's music player. And I've set my left home key in TF to start new text messages, couldn't quite figure that one out in MS without clicking a few buttons.

I tried running both but for some reason MS completely disables TF.. I went into today settings and TF is unchecked.. recheck TF3D.. nothing, softreset.. nothing. It may be the custom rom I'm running, not sure. MS has come a long way, this is the closest I've come to finding a replacement for TF but not quite yet.

I'm running SPB Mobile Shell on a Touch Pro with Mighty Rom 5. It's real smooth. I like it more than TF3d because of the ease of customizing the home screen. But one thing I really miss, like others have states, is the ability to preview email and test messages.

I installed the MS and I am not sure about it. I have a touch pro and it seems a little slow to load. Then again I was used to version 2.

i was thinking about that,,, maybe integrating sbp diary??? hhhmmm... im going to try right now.

edit: above idea did not work, ms3 doesn't see sbp diary like pocket plus >:(

Yeah, I figured that. It probably will have to be a newly designed widget. I'm just wondering if SPB designed MS3 to have that capability...

As for the comparison. I think one thing we need to keep in mind is that SB3 just came out so it probably will have some growing pains.

Re: SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 vs. TouchFlo

Here's my 2 cents- The graphics are good, the user interface is nice, the simple fact that I can't EASILY customize the screens and layout as I see fit is crap! I am really disappointed in SPB especially considering their general quality of work in past works. Now I know there is a way around this, but that's not the point. The point is that if I wanted something that was not flexible at all, I'd get an iphone. I really wish they would fix this...

I've done it 3 times now I think, I really wanted to love mobile shell 3, something makes me prefer tf3d in the end, I'm not sure why but the sms & email previews are great in tf3d, also tf3d looks visually better than spb mobile shell 3 imo.

a lot of people have been posting about the "lack" of customization. imo ms3 is much more customizable (excluding themes of course at the moment) than tf3d. my question to you guys is what kind of customizing are you trying to do?

Huh? What thread are you reading?

I think the lack of customization is aimed at TF3D than MS3. In TF3D you can certainly customize the themes but you can't really add stuff to each tab/page.

OK that's just one...
But you said "a lot of people have been posting about the "lack" of customization."

Honestly, I see more complaints about the lack of customization for TF3D. But anyways, SB3 is so new. I think in time we'll see more and more options for customization.

I must have a strange TP because I use my phone at work out in the construction field to get and send work orders and e-mails plus set appointments and the phone calls and like now my battery is still at 60%. My day starts at 5:00am. I use the rom made by rstoyguy with MS3 incorporated in the rom and I love this shell compared to the prior versions as far as UC. If you want to try the best version try RSTG's rom for Diamond and Pro. And I have only about 1 second of lag between portrait and landscape .

How do you have both installed and working on your phone? I installed Mobile Shell 3 on my Touch Pro and it appears Touchflo is gone. Please let me know what I would need to do to get both working so I can switch back and forth. Thanks.
