Which GPS doesnt use data?
Because of where I live, I dont get a data signal through sprint. So I cant uses sprints navigation. So, is there a gps I can use that uses the satelites? Because I have a tomtom and I can use it in my area. Also, if there is one, how big is it, like will it fit on the mem card that came with it (1g)?

You can use iGo, Tom Tom or Garmin without a data signal if you only want the guidance...Garmin, with data, can also provide traffic updates (like the Sprint Navigation program)...Don't recall the exact size but you might be able to squeeze on a 1GB, though 2GB or 4GB would be a better fit...I have iGo and Garmin on my 4GB card with room to spare for plenty of other stuff like my backup CAB files...btw, Garmin looks and works great on the Sprint Touch Pro...haven't used Tom Tom on this phone but had good experiences with that program in the past as well...I've read that Garmin has the best VGA interface and graphics though...

Most people look up other means to move the software to a different micro-sd card... |
Re: Which GPS doesnt use data?
I use Route 66 with a bluetooth GPS receiver. I had this setup on my Moto Q (it doesn't have a GPS receiver). It doesn't require data since it's pre-loaded maps. Has turn-by-turn navigation too. The only gripe about this is that the maps aren't always up to date.
The annoying thing about Garmin is exactly what bfaber talked about. I have a lot of stuff on my personal microSD and having to swap all the time = :( |

on the other hand, Google navigator has always been interesting to me. I haven't bought it yet because I'm not sure how well I like the interface, but it seems ideal for us diamond owners out there with limited storage space. supposedly you type in your course, after it plots the course for you, it allows you to download the map for your course. that way you can delete it later and save your storage space. but its hard to get a good feel for the program, because the trial version limits some features, rather than a full trial for a limited amount of time. but after playing around with the limited trial, it doesn't seem worth $60, and would have been better as an upgrade to Google maps. Either that, or I would pay $60 as an add on the Google maps program just because the UI is that much better. |
