PPC6700 - Sprint + Skype = Joy?

Back in November, I gave Sprint the axe. Last week, I signed up with Skype's unlimited service plan. Skype works fabulously, but it requires my computer be on to make phone calls, and unless I buy an expensive wireless headset, I'm stuck to my computer (whereas I normally have a tendency to pace and wander around while talking on the phone).

The alternative is to shell out $80-$160 to buy a Skype Wi-Fi phone.

Then I remembered that I have a perfectly good Apache collecting dust....and so.....

Okay, first...what I'm working with:

Sprint PPC-6700 (Apache)
WM6.1 (5.2.20931 b20931.1.5.0)
ROM version 3.61 wwe
Radio 1.27.00
wireless G registry hack
Skype for Windows Mobile 2.5
High-speed cable internet connection
wireless network (d-link wbr 1310)

and now..what I want to do:

1) I want to reflash my apache WITHOUT all the sprint phone stuff so that it's just a pda.

2) I want to tweak it so that it's optimized for VOIP functionality, specifically using the SKYPE service.

a) Tweak and accelerate Wi-Fi speed

b) Optimized over-clocking

c) Remove all unnecessary components to free up the maximum amount of memory to improve performance

I appreciate any suggestions! And I'll try pretty much anything (so long as it doesn't break my phone)

I have already installed SKYPE2.5 onto the xv6700, it worked fine. There is no need to tweak or optimize the device. It would be more sufficient if you got a headset. Good luck.

Thanks for the response (and sorry I took so long to get back), but it doesn't work fine on my apache. The connection is unreliable (drops calls a lot) and the wi-fi doesn't seem to be able to keep up as call quality tends to be unpredictable. This would lead me to believe that something needs to be tweaked to get this working as a solid alternative.
