is there a program that translates voice into texts?

If I go blind, I still would like to use text messages. MS Voice reads texts, but what about turning voice into texts? Anything like this?

(PS: This isnt really an "if i go blind scenario" more like a "I'm lazy and would like to" scenario)

At this point, I think I'd pay 20 bucks to hold a button down and speak to type. I think that would be so badass. For instance, if u go to your calendar, enter a new event, and when the first textbox is in focus just say something like "Bobs birthday" and have it type it out. Or if you're in a text field in the web browser, or replying to a text message. I mean, why isnt this a standard feature?

See, if I designed phones, this would be the type of thing that takes priority.

What are the pay ones? I don't mind paying if they work well!

i usually google speech to text for pocket pc and check out what comes up. but make sure you don't click on a text to speech because we have that already!

Re: is there a program that translates voice into texts?

Ok so here's what I think we need:

A program that can be assigned to a key. For instance, if I hold down the center button in the middle of the dpad, it launches this voice recognition program. This could be done with AEButton.

Once the program is launched, it temporarily records a sound file onto the storage card using the microphone just like voice recorder.

When there's silence or 30 seconds is up (whichever comes first) the recording stops, and immediately the recording is converted into text.

After this, the text is sent out via sendkeys as if you were using the keyboard. The program will only work if a textbox is in focus first, and saying things like "arrow up" or "arrow down" won't do anything other than write the words "arrow up" and "arrow down."

I don't need anything fancier than this. All I want is a program to record a breif message, and output the text, then exit. This must sound much easier than it actually is.

Does Live Search translate your voice using the phone or does it work like the Instinct's Live Search worked, where it would send the audio file to a server for translation?

chronster - from the sounds of it, looks like you might be interested in this: http://www.nvcnow.com/nvc1/Index/index.htm

I use this on a daily basis. It allows you to press a button, record a SMS, compose an Email, add Appointment, Web look up and call a contact or look up a contact and translates it into text so you can send if you were blind.

The text and email is limited to about 20-25 words, but for texting and short email works like a charm. Great for when you are on the road. I usually only use this as opposed to typing.

On the website under device look up, it only lists the 6700 and 6800 (mogul) but it also works with the Sprint Touch Pro. You have to use AE Button and assign the application to a key so you can hold it down to record your Text or Email. I set it up to use the enter button. Again, works great on my device. There is a monthly service charge of 5.99 per month, but to me that's worth it. Saves me alot of time and head aches of typing the message. Not to mention the risk of getting in a head on collision. :)

Check it out and see if it's what you are looking for. Best of luck!

Meh. It has a lot of stuff I wouldn't use, and at 6 bucks a month, I'd rather just pay an upfront fee for even more basic software. I should contact these people with my idea. I have no problem opening a text message going down the road and reading it, it's just that when I reply I'd like to be able to simply speak once the textbox comes up.

thanks for the suggestion anyways

why does ev eryone these days wand $6+/month for something that can be baught for less than $50??

do tey think were so dumb as to pay 10X the price for something that can be reliably purchased from a major retailer and brand name?

I think this is best shown my the charges for GPS....

delorme gives a free pocket gps app that doesn't eed any data plan if your willing to wait 3 minutes for it to lock.

it cam free with my $30 delorme software for 2008.

my provider wants $10/month for gps...... does this even remotely make sense??

my friend got one of those $5.00 app for her Iphone...no monthly charge.... WORKS REALLY WELL!!
i'll see if I can get the name and then contact to see if their is a ppc version or if atleast it can be made for PPC

I'm sure He'd like the $5.00 from ppc people too.... our money is still green....right?
