Answering machine program?

Hello-

I've been looking for a program that would allow me to record a message for a certain caller, and automatically answer/play it when they called. Kind of like client-side voicemail.

I googled, etc, but I can't find anything. Is such a thing even possible? I think I remember reading somewhere that WM devices can't play sounds on an active phone call.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Update:
I guess being up 30 hours has its downsides...it just occurred to me, what I'm looking for is simply a software answering machine.

There are few caller sms blocking programs thought might give you the ability to have a recorded message played when a certain number calls your phone.

youmail.com (pesonalized greetings for diff. callers) FREE!

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I use YOUMAIL and I love it.

www.youmail.com

Different Greetings for Different Callers

Make your voicemail greeting more personal, with special greetings for the people you care about the most.

* Easy to do, just enter their phone number and record the greeting - on the phone or on the computer.
* We even provide pre-recorded greetings for a variety of situations, so you can get started now. Choose from fun greetings, professional greetings - even greetings with your name.

It' completely FREE! and free is GOOD!

You can set it to send you a Text msg when you have a voicemail, and the Text msg tells you the Person who called & the number they called from.

They have tons of prerecorded greetings to choose from even some pretty funny prank greetings.

But do you get charged by your phone company for fowarding the call?

You might also check out GrandCentral.

Here's the thread for it:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/grandcentral...ndcentral.html

Here's the site:
http://www.grandcentral.com/home/intro

It allows you to have one phone number that will ring multiple phones (home, work, cell, etc.). It allows for some custom greetings and gives you access to visual voice mail on your phone.

Check it out.

^ how does this grandcentral service work? I read the information but it's still not very clear. It also looks like Google's acquired it.

CozBoogie 08-09-2007 05:06 PM

You're correct...Google bought it recently. As it's still in beta you have to receive an invite from a current user. Then it's just a matter of signing up and getting a new number. Without the invite you can reserve a number and you'll be notified via email when GrandCentral goes public.

I have a few invites for anyone who is serious about using GrandCentral.

Coz

EDIT: I use it when I have artists coming to town to play a gig for me. I give them one number and if they run into problems on the road they call that one number and it rings at home, cell, and work. They can get a hold of me literally anywhere, anytime.

I was just on there (Thanks Coz!) and I had a quick question...

My GF has Verizon and I have Verizon, so when we are talking it's Verizon to Verizon in network free calling... If she calls my GrandCentral number and I answer on my Verizon cell phone, is it still IN Network calling, or are her minutes being used?

I hope that was understandable, lol

thanks..

CozBoogie 08-10-2007 12:28 PM

Boy that's a great question Corey...I read through their FAQ and really didn't see anything regarding what you asked.

I would think (but don't quote me) that it's probably not going to be a free call. All that vrz knows is that your gf called a non vrz number. And let's say you answer on your vrz cell...but that midway through the call you swtich over to your home phone (a function that GrandCentral allows). I doubt that it then goes from a free cell-to-cell call to a non-free cell to landline call.

Bottom line...not a free call.

That's pretty much what I was thinking as well....

Okay gang, here's the official response to my question regarding mobile to mobile, looks like we were half right:

Quote:

Hello Cory,

Thank you for contacting us.

Your mobile to mobile calls will not longer fall under that category, since your mobile buddies will no longer be dialing your Mobile number but instead they would dial your GC number to contact you. So for them it will no longer be a mobile to mobile call. However if you have your GC account settings to show the caller id of the person who is calling you, then you can continue to enjoy the mobile to mobile calls. This will happen because even though people are calling your GC number to contact you, your cell phone will show their mobile number on your caller id and not GrandCentrals number. So your mobile company still thinks it's a direct mobile call from that person's cell phone to yours.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Dulce Ramirez
So the GC subscriber would still get the benefits of mobile to mobile, just not the caller.

Anyone with a invite ?

CozBoogie 03-10-2008 11:18 AM

Re: Answering machine program?

It seems that GrandCentral is currently not issuing invites. So basically for those that PM'ed me I can not offer you an invite at this time. Sorry. Now this could mean that they have run out of numbers...or it could mean that they have plenty of numbers and new folks can sign up without an invite.

Check it out and report back.

Coz
