Not sure if any of you guys read the OP's post but he is looking for FREE gps software. You're not really helping him out by recommending Garmin Mobile XT, even though it is really good.

aside from using livesearch and googlemaps to find directions.. i really wouldnt trust amaze or any other freeware gps... the name brand ones like tom tom, garmin, and mapquest cost money and they aren't even perfect... so i'd hate to see how free ones like amaze work out.
i'd recommend investing in garmin xt. it seems to work as well as my standalone garmin except it doesnt say the names of streets..

I dont know if its changed but I tried the garmin mobile xt about a year ago and the main thing I disliked about it was the fact that it would not say the street names (TTS) as opposed to their standalone units which do. This reason alone is why I switched over to iGuidance which is one of the few solutions out there that do say the street names. So for example instead of saying 'turn right' it saids 'turn right on calvert street'. I find this gives me a much better sence of where I am and where I'm going. Until garmin and tomtom implement this on there mobile gps's I wont be making the switch anytime soon.

No, that hasn't changed & never really mattered much to me. I fail to see how "make the next left on Elm in 200' " is a whole lot different than simply "make the next left in 200' " with a turn pop-up showing
you exactly where to go.

I have a Garmin unit built into my truck that does use TTS & I sometimes run both that & GarminXT together. I never even notice (or care) that one does TTS & the other doesn't. IMHO, GarminXT blows away iguidance in every other area so living without TTS seems rather trivial to me.
