Son-of-Commuter-240-QVGA

http://story.nventure.com/pics/SOC240-1.PNG http://story.nventure.com/pics/SOC240-2.PNG http://story.nventure.com/pics/SOC240-3.PNG http://story.nventure.com/pics/SOC240-4.PNG

What it is:

Based on Commuter-240-QVGA (available here) - a WeatherPanel theme built with the car commuter in mind - and particularly, Palm Treo 700 users (or 240x240 screens in general) running SPB Mobile Shell.

It's "clear" (blends in with any Today theme), and it's taller than Commuter-240, showing an additional four-day forecast.

http://story.nventure.com/pics/Son_A4.gif

Features:
  • Elegant, uncluttered display
  • Quick access to multiple traffic cameras
  • Pop-up windows with large button bar for easy "touch" selection
  • Enhanced "24 Hour Combined Temp./Precipitation" chart
  • Three customized icons sets (Yahoo, Dedication 4.1, SPIL) included (as .cab files - for easy installation to storage card)
    http://story.nventure.com/pics/Son_A3.gif

Note: This theme MUST be used with the Son-of-Commuter-240 Icon sets. It may not work correctly with other icon sets.

Installation instructions can be found in the Son-of-Commuter-240-QVGA Readme file (found inside the zip files).

Update 6/17/07: Decreased layout height by 4 pixels.
Update 6/24/07: Added two new icon sets (SPIL and Dedication 4.1). Modified four-day forecast section of layout.
Update 6/26/07: Tweaked four day forecast section for readability.
Update 6/27/07: Another minor tweak for readability...
Update 7/3/07: Very minor update to the icon pak - fixed alert icon
Update 8/24/07: Minor update to the pop-windows (see post here)
Update 8/25/07: Added Son-of-Commuter-240-tall.wpl layout.

Nice work, storyr. Installing it on my ppc now.

2sa 06-12-2007 12:34 PM

It should, however, it will take more than half of your Today screen.

Thanks as usual storyr, glad you still have some time to give us some awesome goodies!!! :D

2sa 06-12-2007 01:10 PM

thanks....think I will give it a try....as always storyr continues to impress.

ls6tt 06-12-2007 02:29 PM

Love the clear. Im using the Cummuter 240 on my PPC now. Does that version have a clear setting?

budney 06-12-2007 04:24 PM

No it dose not, as the moon phase icons don't allow for transparent backgrounds.

jamesus 06-12-2007 04:46 PM

All I can say is wow! Thanks for the great theme!

Catman51 06-12-2007 05:07 PM

Great theme, as usual.
The only request I would have would be to add the update time as a separate line, like in Finis2 by Ken.
That way you could see Current time and update time.

storyr 06-12-2007 09:47 PM

Thanks everyone for the kind words :o

Looks like Pibe38 and budney have answered all of the questions so far - thanks guys.

Catman51 - regarding your request - I'll check out Finis2 and see what can be done...

Catman51 06-13-2007 11:39 AM

Thank you, that would be great.
Really love this theme, going off now to study how to put traffic in!!

For those who haven't seen it yet, there's a tutorial for adding images to WeatherPanel here that will hopefully make it easier... 8)

Catman51 06-13-2007 11:12 PM

Yes, downloaded that. But found it was easier just to add it in by hand.
Also found out that the only traffic cam in Los Angeles is opened with Media Player, so just put in a webcam of downtown L.A.
Big city, no regular webcam!

Awesome work as always Storyr! Any chance of these icons becoming animated in the near future?

The blue and red are built-in themes of SPB Mobile Shell. The others can be downloaded here from zombienexus...

mtclark26 06-16-2007 01:14 AM

Thank you Storyr

This is just beautiful. Thanks so much for your work. This makes SPB Mobile Shell even better. =)

Jonahan 06-19-2007 08:48 PM

I don't suppose anyone has found a way to integrate WeatherPanel w/ Mobile Shell, have they? I wouldn't think SPB would want to allow it, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask...

This just looks SO much better than SPB Weather, but I miss having the today plugin icon and the now screen weather icons automatically update...

budney 06-19-2007 09:33 PM

You can have WP in a tab if that is what you mean???

Pibe38 06-19-2007 10:01 PM

I think he means integration with the Now screen weather icon and the Shell weather tab icon.

I believe the Now screen weather icon is independent, so it doesn't matter if you don't use their stripped down version of Spb Weather.

As far as having WP on a Shell tab, yes you can, however... the tab icon will not update according to the current weather.

I agree in part; there's some odd reason that it's never the same as what SPB Weather actually says, but I don't think it's completely independent. When I use SPB Weather, I can get weather for my tiny little town (not available in the built in Weather tab), AND I have a functional weather icon in the Now screen.

When I use WeatherPanel, the weather icon on the Now screen is always a "Cloudy Sun" and has "N/A" under it.

Which is too bad.

It's too bad that SPB Weather isn't as skinnable as WeatherPanel. Of course, WeatherPanel is just so good there's little reason not to use it... I'm just afraid that at some point it's going to stop working and without any developer support it will just die...

budney 06-19-2007 10:42 PM

Ok, gotcha. :)

Weather Panel Junior

I love your work Storyr. I have made some mods to your screen. Rearranged some thing and center the city on the other screens. I also made the camera button invisible to clean it up and you can still access it with WP Pilot or touch the screen in that corner. When the invisible button is pressed the blue camera button appears. Here are some screen shots.

These pictures are the extended version I did for people who use phone alarm and only want the weather.

Hey - thanks for the recognition. Looks like you've got the hang of modifying WP themes. There's something about these big icons on a black background that's sexy =P~ .

BTW - my sister works in Schaumburg (if were talking Il)...

Yes, I live in Schaumburg, IL. I do have a questions for you. I have no idea how to create images for WP like the sun, clouds, ext.. I was wondering if you ever get around to it if you could create the sun images and a couple of the other ones centered in the box per say. I noticed the current ones are in the top left hand corner so when I center them on my screen as you can see the clouds and other icons that you do have centered are off to the right.

If it is a lot of work don't worry about it I just really like how it looks with the images centered.

I agree that the all black is sexy and that is why the work you have done fits my taste.

Torx 06-22-2007 06:30 AM

man this theme is the tihs!! still enjoying it and everyone flips out about the radar and traffic cams, lol

is there a tweak to allow a flipping of the images by themselves?, to go from radar, picture, picture, etc and over again on a timed cycle?

you know whats even cooler?
i can put a streaming image of a beach cam and enjoy that rather than gloomy memphis traffic, lol

How do you do that? My understanding is that WP captures an images every time it updates. I did not know that it is connected all the time for streaming.

WP captures a single image. You can then "play" the cached images (if you have set up WP to not purge the images) and it will give the impression of movement. Sort of like making a little animated scene using a flip book.

Coz

Agreed! Love the icons against a black of darker gray back ground.

=OFF TOPIC=

And speaking of Schaumburg, IL...I use to work there a few years ago (Now I'm in Chicago).

No-can-do - unless you wrote a script with Mortscript or something to operate the WP theme...

Spiderman313 06-24-2007 12:18 AM

Is there a way to use the dedication41 icons for this layout? That would be awesome. Thanx.
