This is from Houser over at XDA:

First GIF animation today plugin release

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a first release of a simple today plugin that shows
an animated GIF in the today screen area.
The position of the gif, that is displayed, is currently fixed in the area
of the plugin.
I will change this in the next release, so that the position can be configured.

The position of the plugin itself can be changed under
Start - Settings - Today - Items (TodayGif).

After install you must activate the plugin first!

The gif file that will be displayed can be found under: \Windows\Today.gif
You can replace the file with one of your favorite one. After replace you must
deactivate and then activate the plugin to show the new gif.

Sure the animation uses some CPU time, but the thread that displays
the animation has idle priority so that other work can be done with
no effects.

You can pause and restart the animation by tipping on the animation area.

This is the first release and I will keep on developing more features
and improvments.

[04-17-2007] Updated with new version 0.0.2

Changes from 0.0.1 to 0.0.2:

- Improved gif decoder (it is although possible that a gif file with an unknown format cannot be displayed)
- If a gif file can not be loaded an error message is displayed on the today screen
- Configuration added (gif file can be selected and the position can be changed)
- Context menu added (when you tap on the today plugin area a menu pops up where you can open the config and change the position of the gif animation)

Um.. inside that zip file is a Winzip shortcut.. nothing else..

Ok...problem solved. Download and save as a .cab. This should fix the problem. If not let me know.

It is a cool app. I have it built into my new rom. It is cool for a while, but can grow tiresome. Good for the Wow factor though.

im usin a today.GIF plugin for my ultimate launch. The original picture is transparent. You can install it then make sure its in your today options screen. Also once its there you can select it from the home screen and use whatever if you find. And to activate you just click on or touch it on and off.

Should be a config option when holding down on or near the gif. I like it also. I use it as my main page in ultimate launch.

Hello, maybe maybe its me but I dont have the option to change it to a cab at the download screen. Can someone post the CAB file.

Sad owner if the HTC Touch Pro.
Its not worth the money ($649.99 + Tax) that i paid for

1.) - Ear & Speaker phone Speakers are Crap *CHEAP* (My SMT 5800 has better speakers in it)
2.) - Heats up
3.) - Battery Life is CRAP
4.) - Raised home button.

Anyone who is thinking about getting this phone do yourself a favor and skip this phone.
I would wait till the end of the year when the Touch Pro2 will be out... It has 2 speakers to fix the sound, 2 mic's to improve teleconference, it even has a tilt screen!

sorry‚ nothing as mentioned is working. I'm downloading it from UC browser ( on my PPC) and the downloaded file size is 56.3k. I changed the file extension to .cab but of no use.
