ORB, TCPMP tweaking, streaming and speed test questions...
Alright, i finnally got home wifi streaming working with resco explorer thanks to you guys recommending.
Im getting super fast speeds but it seems like tcpmp cant keep up with processing the incoming data so it keeps "loading" every couple of seconds. Same thing with orb accessing my computer via evdo. I feel like im getting a good speed connection but tcpmp seems to hiccup too much to even enjoy. So... - What tweaks can i make in tcpmp to increase efficiency and streaming performance? - What evdo speeds are you guys getting, and from what sites are you testing from? - orb is friggin awesome, but i need a tvtuner and im not going to buy one, nor a slingbox.. so any good recommends for livetv via a NON-signup website? - is there any other plugins/addons i need to do with a bonestock tcpmp?? thanks for any advice! |
ORB 2.0 should get you lots of internet video sites under Videos and internet TV sites under TV
tcpmp... I get decent lag-free EVDO video streaming (and audio of course) if I set my speed manually to 160 - 320 from the ppc on the my.orb.com site. 320 sually works as well (or better/clearer then 160) but that's pushing it sometimes (my home network uplink speed to the internet is 780kbit) You should throttle your speed in orb, it will resample the content for you - tcpmp maxes out around 1-2mbit/sec - more and it's not smooth. Plugging in the 6700 (ie, forcing speed to 418mhz) helps a bit. Overclocking to 520mhz helps more. My tcpmp options: Video First Smooth checked, Dither checked, Quality Normal, DirectDraw checked Settings: Buffering Normal:2400 underrun 70 preload audio 64 Advanced all unchecked except Prefer lookup tables over arith... and D-Pad follows... DirectDraw Auto and last 2 checked Intel XScale last 2 checked |
WOW, you just made my day and made orb worth my while!!
all those tweaks except for overclocking, resulted in NO lags, AT all, i mustve watched about 10 minutes of video and no hiccups! AND the video quality looked alot better! i did a speakeasy speed test on my home pc, these are the results Download Speed: 19614 kbps (2451.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 1718 kbps (214.8 KB/sec transfer rate) i need to test the phone at a good site as well. EDIT: how can i get rid of the popup everytime i click on a file from my computer. it asks everytime "do i want to overwrite the file" i have to click yes to view it. What is it doing and how can i stop it from doing that? |
Is TCPMP superior to WMP?
I know in the past I've seen posts about not using the newer versions of TCPMP, though I never quite understood why... What version are you using? Thanks, Jonathan |
Ok, I found tcpmp[1].pocketpc.0.72RC1 on the FTP here and installed it, and set .ASX files (Windows Metafiles) to use TCPMP. Now when I launch a video file from within ORB it launches TCPMP correctly. I've set the rate on my.orb.com to both 160 and 320. Even at 320, the video is very choppy, although the sound is, of course, fine.
I have all the settings above, except for this one: >> Video >>First Smooth checked, Dither checked, Quality Normal, DirectDraw checked I can't find where to put those settings into the version of TCPMP I'm using. However, I wonder if my upload speeds are the problem. My DSL connection tops out at about 340 kbps. Any more tips on getting smooth playback? Thanks, Jonathan |
Yeah, can someone tell me how to get Orb to play through TCPMP?! I tried doing a search, but I couldn't find anything. I put in 'Orb', and it said there weren't enough letters... So, I tried Orb-TCPMP, and nothing came up..
Anyway, can anyone help me out? Also, I'm having the same problem as the last guy who posted here. I can't find that first setting on TCPMP... EDIT: One more thing before I forget... Someone said (above) that if you want to use TCPMP with Orb, that you need an older version. Well, I'm using the Newest Version so that I can watch YouTube videos. If I DO need an older version, would I be able to put it on my storage card and have BOTH versions?! -Touche' |
I use TCPMP with the WMP9 codecs and it works great for Orb. I have video set to Raw FrameBuffer and I don't have any problems, just some occasional buffering. I'm using 0.72RC1.
I have a question for anyone using Orb with a TV tuner card. Does Orb support changing channels? I'd be connecting it to an analog cable line with no cable box and the tuner software would support changing channels. It wouldn't be much use if you can't change channels from the Mogul though. |
can someone plz help me? Everytime I try to open orb with TMCPCP I get a error that my audio codec is not supported and video codec. What do I need and can you point me to it?
*EDIT* nevermind and for those that need to here's the fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298126 |
