Map Pack for GPS
Hello all. I am new to this site, and still have a lot to learn about my Sprint PPC-6800. I do not have a data plan, and thus cannot use any of the GPS software that I have found thus far without incurring massive overage charges.
I would like to know if it is possible to download map data and store it on the SD card in my phone? If so, could someone point me in the right direction? I have done quite a bit of searching, and would like to be able to just download a map of California and some GPS software. Will this even work? I am assuming that the GPS itself will work and that any data usage is simply from the downloading of maps from my carrier. Thanks for the help. Dan |
Re: Map Pack for GPS
You'll need to buy software from TOMTOM or Garmin. They both cost about $100.-$150

Re: Map Pack for GPS
OK, so it looks like map packs/software are not available for free. Another question: is there any standard file format of maps that is used? I ask because I have a navigation DVD for the factory navigation system in my Honda Civic. Is there free GPS software I could use if I were to copy the maps from the DVD to my microSD card that would read these maps?
Thanks again, Dan |

No. Unfortunately you are not going to be able to do what you want. You're either going to have to get a data plan or pay for GPS software.

From my experience, iGo 8 is the best in USA and Europe.

Re: Map Pack for GPS
I have been using TomTom for almost a year now, and its time for an update. Which GPS program has the most recent maps, because TomTom's are almost 3 years old at this point. Also, I need a GPS program that has voice directions with txt to speech for the street names.
