Opera Mini 4.2 Beta Available

i didnt see this listed.

Today Opera Software announced the availability of a beta version of its Opera Mini 4.2 mobile browser. Opera Mini 4.2 beta provides a selection of new skins, improved support for YouTube and other mobile video services on a wider selection of mobile phones. Opera Link is also improved to allow users to share notes between their mobile phones and PCs, in addition to their bookmarks and recently-visited URLs. The mobile browser is a free download.

Is there a VGA Java client that has smooth scrolling in it? The one I was able to find was pretty bad, but it worked fine in the Java client I used for my Mogul. If everything wasn't so small I'd just use that instead.

I have searched for that exact thing. The only thing I've come across so far is a version that has really bad scrolling. I'd like to get a version that has smooth scrolling and takes up the full screen. If you know of one, please provide a link.

I use UCWEB6 quite a bit and I like the new version of Opera Mini because of its general speed and video support. Vertical scrolling, however, seems to be much slower in 4.2 than UCWEB.

Re: Opera Mini 4.2 Beta Available

Yeah the vga esmertec with this Mini beta is very sluggish to pan the pages. So far the latest build of Opera Mobile is the fastest, but nothing yet beats the speed of Esmertec/Opera Mini on the Mogul at the moment.....

OperaMini 4.2 beta released!!!!

I don't know if anyone else has posted this yet, I searched but didn't find it. So here it is:
http://www.operamini.com/beta/

enjoy!

From their site:

New in Opera Mini 4.2 beta

Skins

Personalize Opera Mini by choosing a new colorful skin. We have reintroduced the popular skinning feature from Opera Mini 3.

Performance

Opera Mini 4.2 can use our newly established server park in the US. This means significantly faster page downloads for our users in the Americas and Asia-Pacific region. Users in the rest of the world will also experience faster page downloads since we’ve reduced the load on our other servers.

Video

We are working to make video content available on more phones through Opera Mini. If you have a new Sony Ericsson or Nokia phone, the chance is high that you can take Opera Mini for a spin on m.youtube.com.

You can lower the page pool. but a new phone and you'd be in Heaven. That's how I feel with my Touch pro. I never have to worry about how many programs I have running.

Okay I did not make any of this I just found them and put all of them together.

1.install java if you don't have it.
2.you need to install opera 4.2
3.now you need to put the PNG. and the icon.dll in windows/appdb. And then
put the opera mini shortcut anywhere you want.
4.now with your phone connected to activesync run jbed-untrusted-fix.exe in you pc ( you have to put the file in your computer then run it.)

If you brick you phone don't blame me. Use on your own risk.
It worked for me.
Attachment 16843

this is where I found all of the files needed.

Just downloaded Opera Mini on my Verizon 6800 titan. seems to work well.....hopefully its not a memory hog that seems to ignore registry settings to NOT close programs....even when there like 11 megs of ram still available when It is running........LAME

There you go. Just uninstall the opera you have and install this one. This one scrolls better too.

Gmfeny,

Nice minni cab - thanks! Over the years I have played with many versions of Opera Mini - but have , surprisingly, never come across one that installed that way without going through Java, let-alone adding a nice icon...

The only issue on my Sprint Mogul WM 6.1 is that some pages (after the actual page ends) have TONS of white space - as if the page goes on forever... this messes with scrolling a bit - but no biggie....

Thanks!

How difficult would it be to make this the default browser?

Re: Opera Mini 4.2 Beta Available

Thanks for the mini cab. I couldn't figure out the install otherwise. It seems to work great. Much better than the previous versions of Opera I've installed. This 4.2 version doesn't seem to hang due to memory issues.
