tethering question??

I have verizon service (after dumping sprint in disgust) with unlimited data.

Tethering is not something I need to do very often, but it could come in handy when traveling in my camper. I have ics installed in my xv6800 running neuROM3, & it seems to connect my asus EeePC to the net just fine using either BT or USB in the few short tests I have done.

A guy I work with use PDAnet (& swears by it) for inet access. Is there any advantage to a program like that over the ics program I already have???

no, except pdanet gives you the option to do wirelessly like with the wifirouter app - but that's just going to burn your battery down faster. I'd stick with ics. I hope you've made the proper registry edits to ensure your wireless carrier never finds out though. There's also a couple cabs floating around somewhere... With the edits, it makes sure you're using your carrier line to connect instead of the phone as a modem option, which i think your carrier can track easier.
anyway, your friend basically paid for something that is free. but i guess he's enjoying the nice menus that enable him to connect huh?

edit: i'm not positive it's the same with verizon, but with sprint they charge for tethering if they actually find out. as long as you don't surf heavily this way, they won't notice though.

I'm sure he is, he's not real computer literate & would never get it working any other way..........

In a camper? I'm the same here. We have an rv and I do the same whe out on the woods. I use WIMFirouter to hitch it to the laptop. Works without a flaw.

We have a small (24') class C Holiday Rambler motorhome.

I don't use it too much anymore (I have oened it for over 15 years) as it uses so much gas it's sometimes cheaper to fly & stay in the Holiday Inn, but I still prefer the RV when I get the chance.

Go here for the cab if you want to have it done automatically... if you want to do the registry edits manually just look through the post, they discuss several methods... they're pretty simple though.

then start up internet sharing, press connect, plug in your usb to your computer and you're good to go...

Those edits are part of the No2Chem roms. They were always included in all of No2Chem roms I used on my Mogul.
