Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 2 now available

1 Attachment(s)
Opera has released its v9.5 beta 2 of the Opera Mobile browser. It supposedly supports widgets in this release. Let me know what you think. Italicized is the achilles heel.

From their website:

Opera Mobile 9.5 betaKnown issues
  • ActiveX is disabled - Flash plugins and embedded video streaming do not work.
  • Custom software keyboards (IME) will be buggy at best, not working at worst.
  • No multilingual build - Only English is supported. Problems with other languages (and input methods) are not unexpected.
  • Installation on memory cards may cause problems.
  • Text wraps in overview mode.
  • Main testing has been done on English HTC devices (Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, TyTN and Wizard) and Samsung i900.
  • Landscape mode does not take keyboard position into consideration.
  • Devices with low memory might get Out Of Memory (OOM) messages.
  • Opera is always running when the Widgets Manager is running.
  • On devices with hight DPI some of the pre-installed widgets look small.
  • When an URL is opened from a widget, there will be an extra browser window opened in the background that's not working properly.
NOTE: Install size is 10+ MB

Thanks for posting. I gave it another shot with my sprint mogul (3.35 official rom), and instantly got the "out of memory" error. I saw that it said it would probably happen, but i tried anyway :) dschoenike

I used to use Opera, but since having Skyfire, why would anyone use a rusty Opera that doesn't properly support flash and that doesn't work on half the Moguls out there?

From a business standpoint, you gotta ask yourself these questions.

P.S. - Does anyone know if the Opera used in the new Touch Pro will be flash enabled or not?

Anybody got screenshots? Does it look the same as beta 1? How bout widgets?
Tried that skyfire beta, and it seems slower than any other browser I'm using. The only thing I did like was that it played flash video straight through the browser. I tried with opera to get flash going, but just couldnt get it. Even with 9.5 build 2392 and flashlite as stated here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401643.
Can't wait to here more about this beta. Going to opere now to see what I can find.

It looks identical to Beta 1. Same interface, same rendering ... just ... same ... The widgets is a "standalone" app that launches by itself. It works similarly to NetFront's widget app I tried earlier this year. I wonder if that's where Opera got the idea ... d*mn thiefs

Unfortunately Skyfire does not support VGA screen resolutions. I loved it on my Touch but it does not like my Touch Diamond.

Skyfire's scrolling is bad. I love Opera's smooooooth scrolling.

looks like more bloatware added into opera mobile to be even SLOWER than it already was.
