Personal voice recorder (great app, free!)

http://www.audacityaudio.com/ppcper.htm

Dunno if I posted this or not, but this is a great, free! app for recording voice. It will record until you run out of space (literally hundreds of hours using the GSM codec on a 2gb SD card) using the mic - ie, not for recording your phone calls, but great for recording meetings, thoughts, etc.

Somewhat funky interface (designed to be used with the dpad, not the pen) but you get used to it in a few attempts.

It's freeware, but you need to register it - I already have this one in OEM form, just need to clean it up and upload it for you kitchen types ;)

schettj,
Nice find. I have the full Audacity suite on my laptop and it is a really good application.
Are you running this prog on your SD card? And if so, is it working OK? The download site says it is "This software is designed to be run from internal memory" and my main memory is pretty full at this point.

Is this any different/better than the built in voice recording function in notes? It does look interesting, but I am wondering (aside from if I will ever really USE it!! LOL) if it is worth the memory to install it if my phone is already capable of a similar function.

Notes records for 4 minutes and then stops. Useless for recording a 1 hour meeting :D Also, this lets you select which codec (compression) to use, and can record for hours in just a few MB.

So yeah, it's pretty different. You can also append onto a file, so you could keep all your thoughts on your next great novel in one file, and just keep appending away - I guess.

I did have it installed on card, where it ran just fine, before I ROMed it :D

Edit: It records just fine to card, that's how I use it.

OK...I see the plusses....I will probably install tonight...thanks!

the built in recorder will keep recording for as long as you hold the button down, it just only takes 4 min recordings at a time (i recorded an argument between me and the wife  )

what kind of battery drain do you get with this app?

schettj 04-13-2007 01:48 AM

Yeah, I just turn it on and place the phone on the table during a meeting.

Screen backlight cuts off after 2 minutes (my setting for battery power) so drain is about the same as listening to mp3s - about 10%/hour.

I got the program when it was a free experimental version, but crashed my hard drive that had the registration info on it. Maybe they will resend it to me?

I used to TRY to use noteM, but it never really works. The freebies, Voice Recorder, and Record don't really cut it. I sometimes need unattended recording for a fairly long time, like meetings, interviews, etc. Don't really want to pay 30 bucks, though.

Anybody know if this will run properly from Extended ROM?

Would someone please post the Freeware CAB? Thanks..

Wow that's an OLD thread.

The freeware version they used to have back in april of 07 seems to have gone missing when they upgraded in the summer. It's now $30. The original freeware version might have had a timeout as well, I don't remember why I stopped using it.

I've stopped using it myself, the HTC Voice Recorder works fine in WM6.
