new Vcast site

verizon launched a new site... m.vcast.com

it looks like a browser ready site that lets you browse and play their vcast content, which you couldnt get to on non verizon software phone.

i was wondering if there is a way to play this content now that we can browse and see it all.

when i try to play it wmp give me an error, but im wondering if theres another player or some other way that would decode and stream it on Windows mobile.

thanks

The codecs didnt work for me to stop the wmp error. Sent email to support link on m.vcast site and its fixed and working.

I'm only getting sound - no video. I already had the codecs installed on my Samsung i760. Any ideas?

Re: new Vcast site

I've seen problems like this on Windows Mobile phones when the native media player tries to autodetect the available network bandwidth (and it doesn't work right giving a very low value) and/or the bandwidth setting in the media player is manually set too low. Then the player and server will negotiate to just audio.

My suggestion - from the media player (when playing something) go Menu -> Options ->Network.

Turn off "Detect Connection Speed"
Set the connection speed to something fast - 256Kbps or something, doesn't have to be true

Try to restart video

If that doesn't work, try turning off the UDP and going only with TCP

Hope this helps.

You have to have a Verizon phone and you need to sign up for free. They ask for your phone number when you sign up among other things. So...seeing that you are a sprint user, it probably won't work.

Actually, I used my AT&T Blackjack and it worked fine. Seems as long as you have a data plan, you can get to m.vcast.com from any mobile phone - not just Verizon phones... I was able to play media without having to do any signup... This m.vcast is sweet!!! I was watching Sportscenter and not even a Verizon user - AWESOME!!!

Really...so what do you do to make it work? Put in your phone number? Also, do you have to run this from Internet Explorer or can I use Opera 9.5 or Skyfire?

Greetings. This is very cool. It's working great on my sprint mogul through pieplus and wmp. I only had to sign up using my phone number to use the "favorites" section of vcast. Thanks for the post. dschoenike

Would we be able to use ESPN mobile application on Vcast?

When i did it - I was able to play media without even signing up or entertin in any phone number... I then did it so I could save content in my "favorites" section... The choice is yours.

Total noob question here. I can get audio, but no video. I obviously need the codecs installed. I cannot figure out exactly where they go. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Using a Sprint Touch w/wm 6.1

I don't think you need any additional codecs. Try turning off auto detect for network bandwidth in the windows media player. See my earlier post in this thread.
