Pandora on touch (and other streaming music solutions)

Updated Sep 15th

So it seems like there is currently no way to play pandora on the touch. There are however some good alternatives that work with the Skyfire browser.

1. Last.fm *RECOMMENDED* - actually has a lot more selection and diversity than pandora. also allows you to play any song at will, unlimited skips, and make a playlist. I think you can only make one station, not several like pandora. This is a great one for international music (gotta have my zouk)

2. Jango.com *RECOMMENDED* - very similar to pandora and with more options. Also lets you create several stations and play songs on demand. Also lets you customize song discovery (only popular, diversity, or in the middle). Another cool feature is that when a song is playing you can choose out of several songs to play next. Interface works very well with skyfire.

3. Slacker.com

4. Live365.com - Lots of streaming radio in a flash player.

Without Skyfire it seems like we can only listen to streams such as can be found on Shoutcast.com

Thanks to all that contributed to this thread, a lot of these i've never heard of before. Please keep on sharing if anyone knows any more.

From what I understand there is currently no way to easily use pandora on a WM device. I have actualy written pandora and they responded that they are working on a app for WM, they didnt say if it would be a pay service or free. Check out this article, http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=627. When I wrote them an email about it they sent me a free t-shirt, they seem like cool guys over there. I cant wait for this the app to be finished...

Yeah they are pretty cool...I believe they were just a group of friends in college who decided to start that software. I've been using it for years and I love it! I'm with ya on the WM app...I'm waiting anxiously for something to come out.

isn't Pandora going out of business or something?

That's the rumor. RIAA licensing fees are costing them too much.

They were too busy developing a free Pandora App for the I-Phone. Thats why we don't have one yet. Anyway, I would be more than happy to pay their $36 annual fee to use this on my phone add free.

Ye sucks, i was hoping it would work on skyfire since it plays almost all flash sites. It didnt work for me, Any one get it to work?

I also tried yahoo music but they dont work on anything but explorer.

Still seacrching for a good streaming solution for the touch (besides youtube)

Here's something else to try... it's a DESKTOP app, not for the PPC, but you can use Nexus Radio to record music to play on your PPC. Here's the link:

Shoutcast stations work, with tcmp.

Also Live 365 works perfectly with skyfire.

also although the yahoo music radio doesnt work, the video station works with skyfire (only the commercials are a pain)

Re: Pandora on touch (and other streaming music solutions)

last.fm works fine with skyfire. Which makes me wonder why Pandora doesn't, since they seem so similar.

I actually like the selection on last.fm better than Pandora, although Pandora's interface looks a lot better. The sh!t Pandora picks out to play always pisses me off.

shoutcast also works nicely with GS player - I save my pls files in a separate folder for easy access

pandora is great. support it through purchases of songs by hitting the links when you find a song you like playing. it will be a big loss if pandora gets squashed by the MAN. it will be great to get it on the touch too.

Re: Pandora on touch (and other streaming music solutions)

The fact that pandora is taking so long to produce an app for us is so annoying that i just couldnt wait. on my skyfire i can play sounds from the net and there is a site that is just like pandora called jango.com. with that site you pretty much get pandora on your phone. works pretty nice but once the screen darks out the music stops. i heard that with slide to lock you can continue programs w/out the screen on but my one button on my touch is taken for full screen keyboard. :violent2:

hope it works for all of you guys too

yeah that screen thing is true for whenever youre playing music. Even when i stream once the screen blanks the playback becomes choppy. Anyone seen a solution for this?

SelectRadio is a nice streaming app.

Works with satellite internet feeds, Shoutcast stations, podcasts & MP3Tunes Music Locker.

I like the availability of presets in several different streaming categories as well as the scan features.

Select radio looks interesting. Trial download of app, good for 10 days, reg fee $25.00

Re: Pandora on touch (and other streaming music solutions)

Pandora works text entry does not. Its a generic issue with skyfire...it can enter text in flash text fields.

I may have a terrible workaround, but I haven't been able to test it. If you type in a band, you can click to more options on it, and edit the station. That will take you to a new page, for example, dispatch's is http://pandora.com/stations/2aa1db29...74869f84047ca8

That page has a play now link. Its possible that play now link may work for the band you want, if you enter it into pandora.

I found this on everythingq.com forums. The text is really small on my diamond and it has a few quirks (loses stream sometimes) but it works!

Works on the Sprint Touch Pro

If you define "works" by what sounds like a 32k bitrate wma stream that constantly has to reconnect even though I have multiple bars in EVDO mode.

I've resorted to using my Dell mini 9 (really small laptop) in tethering mode to get Pandora in the car, YES I LOVE PANDORA THAT MUCH! Unfortunately this app is not going to replace my current setup :(

But a step in the right direction!

Thanks! works like a champ on my Mogul. Over EVDO... stream starts pretty quick and never has to rebuffer. Stream sounds about 64kb/s but I'm no expert. This thing is what we've been waiting for!
