Menu Control?

We use a Vogue for our on call people so they can check/send email when they are out and about and access a web portal we've designed to allow them access to review or change information as they need to.

One thing we're running into is they are new to the phone and they are changing settings causing the phone to not work the way it should. Any suggestions on how to "lock" the phone down so they can't get into settings or anything other than what we need them to get into?

I don't want to remove programs but am thinking more of Start Menu modification. I'd like to leave the menus there so if we need to get into the phone settings or change anything we can, so maybe a password to open up the full menu?

hhhmmm that would be cool for that type of situation. I will have to do some searching on that one when I get home.

With QuickMenu you can remove and add items to the Start Menu...thus reducing the chance that someone would mess with settings, etc.

Additionally, you might look at SPB Clone to quickly and easily reconfigure and maintain your "phone fleet".

Thanks Coz, I will look at the Quick Menu. If we get more phones (and I hope we will), you're right the Cloning software will be needed.

I'm curious what you mean by, "causing the phone not to work the way it should." I really don't mean to be a (insert your desired explitive) but are the phones actually having issues that can't be resolved by a quick soft reset or are you just annoyed that they are playing with the expensive toy you are providing?

im sure they mean just regular settings here and there, if its a company phone that multiple users are using then it should be left the way it was handed to them and thats it. Im sure i wouldnt want people just "playing with an expensive toy" but also its a business tool and shouldnt be treated like the current users personal device.

As for the orginal post, i havent seen anything that would just lock the device and give access to just the start menu. My suggestion is to create a backup, using SPB backup or Sprite backup, that has the unit set up the way you want it and everytime you get the device back just run the restore program.

I don't care if they explore the phone and learn it, what has happen on a couple of occasions is that the email settings/active sync/direct push get changed and the phone no longer gets email. Then people whine at us that the phone doesn't work as advertised because they don't get email. Once we are told that there is a problem (the last time they told us 10 days after not getting email ](*,)) fixing it isn't a well, problem, lol.

That's why I was wondering if it were possible to remove some items from the menu, kinda take the sharp edges away

If anyone has a different idea, I'm all ears, that was just the first one that hit me.

Not at all. We manage the movement of raw milk from the dairy to the bottle, cheese, ice cream, powder plants. The phone is used by the on call Logistics Coordinator to have access to email and to our system to make changes on the fly.

If you watched "Dirty Jobs", not too long ago, he was at Fair Oaks Dairy Farm, which is one of our dairies.
