What RSS Reader are you using?

Looking for a good looking, reliable rss reader. Please let me know what you suggest. Thanks!

EDIT: Results as of 8-8-8..until i typed that i didn't realize it.... (post 26)...

Newspanel - 1
PocketRSS - 1
Google Reader - 2
Beyond Pod - 3
Egress - 1
Spb Insight - 3
Newsbreak - 3
RSSHub - 1

8-8-8
I have been using BeyondPod for about a week. So far I like it, but it seems to use a lot of memory. After a soft reset, i have 20.1 MB free. Run Beyond Pod, listen to podcast, pause, now I am at 11.0 MB Free. I thought I'd miss the today screen, but I dont. It's not as 'fast' feeling as Egress was, but there have been zero lockups or other issues.

Still using beyondpod, but also trying viigo beta free from microsofts windows mobile site...which also has free texas holdem (online play even!) and others...

Am currently using NewsPanel. There are some good discussions here in the Software Forum regarding readers. Run a search for them.

Works great since it's also what I read RSS feeds with on my PC and I don't need to import files or re-subscribe to stuff I'm already subscribed to.

I've always been partial to Egress as my newsreader. I've always liked how it can synchronize with NewsGator and when you redirect to links it can use either squeezer or google's mobile compressor/formatter. Looks like he's just come out with a new version, I'm going to have to check it out.

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

Thanks for the suggestions so far...

BTW...I did a search the pocket pc software forum for 'rss', but all I found was "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." I also looked in the sticky titled "Commonly requested & popular software", there is no mention of rss.

Also...I have been a user of egress for years, but haven't had a lot of luck with it on my mogul pre 6.1. I just thought I'd check it again, and they have a beta preview of 4.0 right now that has some nice touch screen navigation features. It doesn't look as pretty as newspanel, but it is supported and the dev is asking for suggestions for new features.

*edit...nice timing desh!

Viigo is good...plus its free. I use Spb Insight because it supports RSS and Atom feeds.

Spb Insight and NewsBreak

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

Well, I installed the preview of egress 4. I liked it, but i was having a problem sending email through godaddy and tried a soft reset. When it came back on it was locked up with a reminder on the screen and after a few soft resets, i have had to hard reset it. This is my first hard reset (other than for the 6.1 upgrade) in at least 3 or 4 months.

The only new software I added in the last few days was egress. This is the reason I had stopped using egress in the past. I guess it just doesn't play well on my device.

I used SPB Insight for a while too...it was pretty nice.

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

SPB insight is the best except it does not automatically update which is real annoying. Pocket rss is also cool but it displays an annoying notification everytime you get a message and it cant be shut off.

I just use google reader in Opera Mini. If I switched to an app that reads my feeds I would miss being able to star articles and share them with notes.

Alright, I'm gonna try beyondpod.

Does beyondpod have a today plugin? This is a min requirement IMO

RSShub = NewsBreak cracked by HTC.

Nope, I have it on my launcher on my Today screen. Or you can put it on the start menu.

No, and I am surprised that I dont really miss it...much...

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

I bounce back and forth between Newsbreak (good podcast support) and Newsgator Go (syncing so I don't have to weed through read articles on the desktop). Newsgator Go can also clip articles and this status syncs to their desktop readers - great for tagging something to read later.

When and if SPB Insight get automatic update it will put all of these programs to shame.[-(

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

What i dont like bout SPB insight:

no autoupdates
no Podcasts
no update by group or category
no alert or searchin feature
no starred, sticky or locked feature for articles that you want to keep
today plugin takes few MB's of precious memory.... why?
no way to know when channel was last updated
zoom for pictures?

PropagandaX 08-12-2008 08:03 AM

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

Does the newsbreak today plugin have scrolling headlines?, this is what i like. If it does i might have to get it a try.

Can you turn off the alerts?

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

I still have beyondpod loaded, but just installed Viigo Beta that I downloaded for free from microsofts windows mobile site - which requires free registration, but I also downloaded a pretty cool texas holdem game that you can play online/offline - also free.

Re: What RSS Reader are you using?

i installed each and everyone suggested and felt RSS HUB was the best. Viigo is pretty good but RSS HUB is the best.

hachiroku 10-02-2008 09:08 PM

Rss Hub

RSS HUB seems to work great, but some RSS's do not display correctly.

when an image attempts to load it draws a X. when i click the image it gives an error.

i have determined its due to the fact that RSS HUB is not correctly processing the image locations.

for example
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/image.jpg is where the image is located, but the RSS.xml is pointing to "/image.jpg", so RSS Hub is looking for /image.jpg but cannot find the image.

does anybody else have this issue? is it fixable through some configuration?
