Direct Push w. Exchange Server?

Does anyone know why Outlook must remain open on my workstation in order to receive email via Direct Push from Exchange Server, and is there a solution? I'm on WM 6.0 and AS 4.5. If I leave the office and Outlook is not running I get no email. Is there another forum better suited for this question?
Thanks
Bob

what metghod are you using to get your mail? did you input an exchange adress into as or are you just plugging your phone into your comp and syncing the mail over?

I'm using the address for the Outlook Web Access (OWA) directly to our Exchange Server. There is no cabled connection at all.

Outlook has nothing to do with Direct Push. Outlook is a client for Exchange just like activesynch is on your phone.

Do you have Direct Push turned on in the Com Manager?
Does your Exchange account have the feature turned on for mobile clients?

What exactly happens that makes you think that this isn't working?

That's what I thought too, yet when I close Outlook I stop getting email wirelessly from the server.

Yes and yes

It works just fine - as long as Outlook is open on the workstation, as soon as I close Outlook it doesn't.

hmmmmm..... So you're not using a third party solution like seven, or anythign else to push the mail besides activesync on your phone? Did you input the owa address and login and pass into active sync in your phone? Did you tell active sync on the phione to push items as they arrive? Sounds like there is third party solution that pushes mail from outlook...I can't remember what its called

Yes, to all the above. It seems contrary to everything I've read about how it should work. It seems it should have no relationship whatsoever with Outlook on the workstation.

There is no connection between WM device and Outlook unless you are connected to your computer with Activesync. Also, by default it will use your computer's Internet connection while Activesync is connected and you have established a partnership.

As a test, perhaps. If he has an Exchange server with Activesync enabled there is no point in messing around with a 3rd party aggregator. This just adds complexity as it adds another Exchange environment to the mail delivery path.
