Since you're taking suggestions...
Hi Marc,
Since you're taking suggestions and don't appear to have your own forum on your site, here are a few more for you (I am a recent PalmOS convert and NewsBreak is the best so far that I've seen while hunting for an RSS app): Feed icons -- would be nice (minor issue) to show the feed icon of the feed in the feed list, rather than the generic RSS icon for all of them. Image Downloading during feed updates -- I think you should provide an option to download the feeds images during the feed update rather than when you're viewing an article. If I'm not connected to the data network while reading articles (on a plane for example) you can't see the images. This could be a global option as well as an individual feed option (with the ability to disable image downloading per feed if the user does not want images from that feed). Feed scheduling -- I like that you can choose the refresh/auto update period overall and for each feed, but I think you should also provide a "Once A Day" option where the user can specify a certain time each day when the feed is updated. This is what I used most with QuickNews, grab the latest at 6AM so I can read them in the morning. It's tough to do now with the current choices :) Keyboard shortcuts -- would be nice for things like "Mark All as Read" not to have to access the menu to do this, could just hit the "M" key for example to mark all articles in a feed as read from the feed list Global Options -- some options would be nice to be able to set globally which would apply to all feeds (and could be overridden for specific feeds). For example, for each of my feeds I only want to see the new headlines. In order to do that, I have to set that option for each individual feed. Would be nice if I could set that once and apply it to all feeds. Sort By of the headlines is another. Think that's it for now! |
Thanks for the feedback! Some of those are things we are already considering for future versions. Others aren't on the list yet but we will certainly consider them. Customer feedback is one of the number one ways we decide what to add/change in out products.
And you can always feel free to email us ideas at any time. (I still can't post email addresses on the forum here due to the forum restructions (I don't have 8 posts yet) but if you used info for the name and remember that our site is called iliumsoft and not Ilium Software you can figure it out. ;) Thanks! Thanks Marc for answering my question. I will have to try to figure it out. IE is still my default, and I have no programs installed on my card. :)

I have been seeing these RSS links but had yet to check out an RSS reader, so this is great. I bought NewsBreak w/o even trying it out cuz its gotten so much good press here. Installing it once I get finished with the ROM update - Kirvin_AKU_3.5_Sprint_NoJunk. Lovin' this site... just discovered it the other day and already its breathed new life into my PPC! I'm more of an addictive user than a true 'geek' (I wouldn't know the first thing about cooking up a tweaked ROM), but sure appreciate your efforts. Thanks guys!

This has been the only RSS newsreader I've ever used. The upgrade was a no-brainer!

is there a way to dl more of the news? I hate the "read more option" where i have to open an explorer browser just to read the rest of the news. maybe a feature on how much of the news i can dl.

Sorry but all we have is what the news source sends us. They determine how much information the feed will contain. Some sites give you the whole story, others only offer a teaser to entice you to visit the site. If you want to read more about this issue and NewsBreak I actually posted a whole blog post about it here:
 http://blog.iliumsoft.com/?p=114 oops....the forum it won't let me post our blog address. You can get to it from the iliumsoft home pages though. Sorry! and made some additional points in the comments. What browser are you using for podcasts? I'm testing the free trial and got the following message, "NewsBreak cannot find an application on your device to open this type of file. Dou you still wish to download it?"
|
That message is probably not related to your browser. Typically, the message means what it says which is that you don't have a media player on your device that will support the format of the podcast you are about to download.
If you are just using Media Player, it support Windows Media files and MP3. Marc Tassin Ilium Software -------------------- +1 (734) 973-9388 --------------------- |
I can't believe I missed this offer, I'm just know trying out this app and it's awesome! It works flawlessly from the SD card too.
Will try it out and maybe another offer will popup after the trial expires!!! |
