manage contacts from phone, 2 way sync

Does anyone know of a mobile app that makes the changes you have done on your phone sync up with your computer?

I am looking for a way to clean up my contacts while I'm on the go, and have those changes be replicated via a 2way sync. It seems like a very simple proposition but I can't find anything that'll do it...any ideas?

DashWire....it will sync your PC with your PPC whenever you like, or automatically. It is an online based service, so it doesn't download a file into your PC, but you can access your contact info (as well as pics, video, texts....) on any PC you sign on to, and any changes made on the Dashboard (PC) are made on both!!

You can find more info and links here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10288

great, thanks!

just out of curiosity, do you know of any tools to make cleaning of contacts automated, or at least easier? My contacts are a jumble of all sorts and I have many that were created through my use of hotmail just to ID them as not junk, however I don't need them on my phone...often times they are just for a website or something like that...it would be nice to quickly filter out the contacts who don't have phone numbers attached to them...

Well...I have seen one posted here before, here is the link: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-...upededupe.html

Personally though, I wouldn't suggest it, you never know what is getting deleted. I know it is a bother (I have done it many times), but I don't think there is any substitute (with any real degree of reliability) for doing it by hand.

P.S. I just noticed your post count....welcome to the community!! Enjoy and ask for as much info as you need to know!! :-)

Check out mail2web . com. True microsoft exchange server for free. Just create an email address and forward your gmail/other IMAP or POP3 email account to it and it will push your email to your device. I have it set to also sync my contacts, calendar, and tasks. It updates immediately on my phone when I edit on the website and viceversa. Try it.

Oh also there should be a setting on your email account in the phone to not add contacts from your email account. I turned it off for the exact reason you are having problems.

Re: manage contacts from phone, 2 way sync

thanks...which is better route mail2web or dashwire?

AND

I really like DASHWIRE but I am wondering If I should be disabling the contacts sync option in activesyn so that change I make in DASHWIRE aren't ovewritten by outlook. I'm pretty confused about which is the master and which is the slace. When I diasbled the activesync contact option all my contacts were delted from my phone...this is fine, but I now want dashwire to refill my phone with the contacts it has on file...it's a mess but maybe you can understand and propose an easy way out

THANKS

I actually stopped using both of them a while back, but will install the latest version of dashwire before my next flash...

I would only recommend mail2web if your wanting email "pushed" to the phone, the problem is the phone will constantly be accessing data. (dashwire is working on more option other than manual/always sync, such as timed sync, but they don't do email..) they do however log all the sms's which is nice.

I actually use the old sms trigger method for "instant email" as most of the mail I get is from this site.

as far as conflicts go, dashwire has been working hard to prevent this, but again I haven't tried lately, and have totally given up on M$ outlook/activesync

Re: manage contacts from phone, 2 way sync

I use mail2web for the email push of all my gmail and other accounts. Also the activesync between mail2web and my phone is 2-way. Any change I make on my phone is updated on the site and any change on the site is updated on my phone. After a reflash of the phone all I have to do is setup the exchange server options on the phone with mail2web's info and all my contacts are back on my phone. I love it.

Re: manage contacts from phone, 2 way sync

Outlook/activesync is really being fazed out fast, I don't even use it unless I have an app I absolutely cannot find a CAB for (rare). I do believe there is a way of getting the changes made on the PPC to over-write Outlook (please chime in if there is an easier way), I think if you delete the relationship on both the PC and PPC, and start from scratch, that when you first sync, and chose info to sync, you can set it to over-write PPC files to Outlook or vise-versa). As I mentioned though...I don't use it any longer, so I am not sure.

As far as DashWire vs mail2web, I prefer DashWire. As shaggylive pointed out, unless you use push email, it isn't too beneficial (I don't use that) the drawback of DashWire is that you don't have a physical file on your PC. You can access it at any time on the web, but I use a backup app to create a physical backup for the PC.
