GPS Program with walking directions

Recently upgraded my Sprint Touch with OMJ's Rom and I'm very happy with it. The GPS works great! I've used Mapopolis for years and always thought it was great but since they have been out of business for a couple of years already, the maps are out of date. I figure it is time to upgrade my GPS software. What I would like is text to voice and pedestrian directions. I do a lot of walking around manhattan and it would be a big help. Anyone know which program(s) if any can do this? Thanks.

Re: GPS Program with walking directions

I believe most premium GPS programs for PPC's like Garmin XT, TomTom, iGo, etc have the option to plan routes based on walking. Obviously those are all full fledged GPS so you may proly get a lot more features than u want

The only text to voice I'm aware of for PDA's is iGuidance 4.0 and Destinator 7.0. I've heard you can hack some of the others to do TTS but that's always a hassle

i still don't see why someone would pay $10/monthly for GPS when the US Government made GPS FREE.

sprint really makes a killing every month on something provided for FREE.

your best bet is to buy the software ONCE and not worry about monthly fees unless you got money to throw away..

The signal is provided for free, but is not very useful without software and map data (neither of which the government provide).

that's why i mentioned buying the software one time and not worry about an extra bill using sprint telnav.

my opinion is you bought the phone, then sprint should atleast provide the gps software with the phone. just like when you buy any portable gps nav. you buy it and no bill afterwards.. maybe i'm just anal but i refuse to pay $120/yr to sprint telenav when all you need is something like garmin xt or tomtom, buy it once it pays for itself.

anyway, the OP has already been given other choices.
