if your screen is 200*400 then the theme i put together is made for 240*320, so it might not look as good for you as its for me

i know it matters from wp app. qvga doesnt look right on the omnia but wqvga does, theres a diff.

The "W" I would believe stands for "wide" and matters more on being wider than a normal QVGA screen which is 320x240

Yes, edit "buttons.png" in the "s2u2/gfx" folder

for editing the .png files, do i have to edit the buttons.png, or can i replace it with any .png file that i want?

you can replace as long as it looks the same. You can't replace it with a regular wallpaper I mean, it needs to be the same format as the png file you are replacing. And the same size.
