Pibe38 posted a "popular programs" thread awhile ago. Check it out.

Re: PPC defrag and registry cleanup
sk tools is very in depth. ive never heard of defragmenting on a ppc, but sounds interesting id first wanna hear someone else mess with that though. somewhere on ppcgeeks someone put up a file with the full sktools to register it. thats what ill be sticking with since there are so many things it can do (clean system/registry, fully uninstall progs, optimize sys/registry, access/modify registry, etc etc)

sktools looks neat but it has all that tweaking stuff and options that i don't really need. i may just try Pocket Mechanic. looking for something simple and lite app with just maintenance options. |
Re: PPC defrag and registry cleanup
i used to use ClearTemp. it basically just cleans up and is much simpler than a lot of apps out there. but its free and it works good.
newest version here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/get-cleartemp-v1-0.html |

I use both SKTools and MemMaid and have found them to be invaluable. If you're gonna have a ppc then you need at least one of them.

I believe the only defrag that Pocket Mechanic does in on memory cards, not the device itself.

Re: PPC defrag and registry cleanup
SKtools is great, I have used several similar programs and I feel that it is the best. That being said, sktools gives the option to defrag the PPC and the sd card. One time I was feeling brave right after I flashed my phone with a new rom and set everything up... lot of work. I won't make that mistake again!!!! My phoned bricked and I was forced to do a hard reset. luckily i backed it up using sktools so it wasn't a very big deal, but it could have been a real problem.
On another note, I have been told that there is no point to defraging flash drives and other similar storage types that are newer. I don't know how true that is, but there was some reason explained to me that made sense at the time. Maybe someone here knows. |
