Best free software?

Hey,
just curious if there's anyone else like me who thinks "damn I just paid $300 for a phone, where can I get some FREE software?" lol

so if you have links to good FREE software post them here! Stuff like weather, GPS, news, entertainment, etc.

Might I suggest these freebies....

Weatherpanel
Ultimate launcher
opera
HTC home & customizer

Re: Best free software?

Google Search plug in (enables Google search right from your Today screen), Tasks + and Calendar + are also good to have. Tasks + and Calendar + list your task and calendar entries in detail on your Today screen

i think gpstoday is a great free plug-in. It uses very little memory, and is very handy if you use gps frequently. They just added geo-tagging also for pictures. Its one of the only free apps that i'd actually pay for. dschoenike

iContacts 0.6 - fast, low resource, scrolling contacts
HTC audio manager - works great with playlists and makes great use of my scroll wheel, would love to see s2p include playlist support
1-Calc Lite - looks good and does tons of unit conversions

Re: Best free software?

I too love PointUI. Wish I could completely remove WinMo and just use PointUI :P

I like iContacts and PocketCM... but both of them forgot to add an "X" button, so even with QuickMenu's Click-and-hold, it doesn't kill the app cuz there's no X to click and hold. Its the most annoying thing about my phone right now.

FIX IT!

Usability-wise tho, iContacts wins hands down.

Re: Best free software?

I would look for "MAGIC BUTTON" I still have an older phone, but use this often to shut down running programs. This is a free program and uses little space.

DssTrainer 06-27-2008 01:19 PM

Re: Best free software?

Ya i used to use that on my PPC 6700... I did DL it to see if I'd like that better.. but no.. for one, it can't close the phone app, so its always in the task bar, for two it requires more work to actually close an app than Quickmenu's X.

I can still close the application from the QuickMenu "running programs" list.

And its not really an issue of task management, its an issue of iContacts and PocketCM both missing a required feature.

Re: Best free software?

"My Mobiler"... its basically a reverse remote desktop, so you can access Windows Mobile on your desktop computer. I love it! You can copy and paste text between the two, use your mouse and keyboard to navigate your PPC, and blow up your phone's screen to a nice readable size, or take screenshots and video. It connects via USB or TCP/IP. Utilizing your PC's keyboard is VERY handy when doing extensive data entry, emailing, Texting, or even playing games!
