Hotmail in Outlook, possible?

I am trying to set up Hotmail on my mothers new Samsung Ace. Everytime I put in her email address it launches Windows Live in Internet Explorer instead of allowing me to run it through Outlook. I'd like to have it tie in and use the contacts on her phone and work just like any other Email address (gmail,etc). Am I up the creek without a paddle? Converting her to Gmail or another address would be great but she is a luddite and loathe to change addresses.

Go through the online stuff for about 2 minutes and then when messages come in , it will be as easy as any other email. I have a .live account and it works for me.
