Low-level SD(HC) card editor/formatter? (how to delete dirs with illegal names)

Hello guys,
I want to get rid of some accidentally produced folders with
"illegal names" on my SDHC 4GB card..
(the system is WM6 on Touch)

While unpacking some archive with accented file names,
pocketRAR produced for me several folders with gibberish names,
and weird dates, which I cannot delete neither with pocketRAR itself, nor with Total Commander, nor with File Explorer..

Does not anyone happen to know a software to deal with such situations
(preferably without reformatting the SDHC card)?

If not,
are there any SDHC formattting tools for WM6?
(my laptop cannot read SDHC cards)

Thanks in advance, Tichi

Re: Low-level SD(HC) card editor/formatter? (how to delete dirs with illegal names)

Here is the trick:

-Load WM5torage in main memory
-Disconnect the PPC from the PC
-Make sure all programs running on the storage card are stopped
-Disable the radio (just to be safe)
-Run WM5torage and activate
-Plug in the PPC into the PC
-The storage card should show up as a USB drive
-Copy what files and directories you can to the PC in a backup location
-Go to the Command Prompt on the PC and run CHKDSK on the card (CHKDSK E: /F)
-Do NOT convert bad data to files. Let CHKDSK delete them.
-See if you can delete the bad files and directories. If you can't, reformat the card to FAT 16, and copy the backup of the good files back to the card.
-Eject the USB device from Windows and disconnect the PPC from the PC
-Deactivate WM5torage
-Soft Reset your device
-Reload missing files as needed from good backups

Hope this helps... (Click on "Thanks" if it does... ;) )

Thanks (2x) !

Actually I was also curious how one can
connect PPC as simple USB drive(s),
without that annoying ActiveSync stuff,
so you did answer
TWO my questions,
including the one that I did not even ask :)

P.S. As far as I understand, WM5torage is a program that
one can get somewhere around?

Thank you syrguy1969 for the links.

I've tried it , but
unfortunately I had some issues with this program.
My laptop did not recognize any of the two proposed formats
(SD card or Flashdrive), and even rebooted via blue screen once..
maybe this is because I use Micro SDHC 4Gb card in my phone,
that is not recognised via a full-size SD adapter either..

Secondly, my phone always hangs after I disconnect it from windows..

Is there anything similar to this program around?

Tichi

Not that I know of, I always access my card via activesync. Usually (as the second site I gave you explains quite well), your not going to get much better or faster. I hope you find what your looking for though!

Yes, witt the access there is no problem,
but you cannot run via ActiveSync something like
chkdsk on the card, can you?...

BTW, this
http://www.cnetx.com/Format/require.asp
software, CnetX Flash Format,
worked for me
It produced some files like chkdsk is supposed to do, I deleted them et voila.. :) so far so good..

I wonder though why such simple and important thing as chkdsk is not included in WM6..

You can certainly fix your problem with....Pocket Mechanic Professional (Download) And it has a scandisk type utility.

You might need to go in Disk Management on your PC and assign the disk a drive letter...

It might be easier for you just to buy a USB Flash Card Reader for Micro SDHC cards... I've seen them pretty cheap... Here is one on ebay for $3.99:
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-Card-Rea...em?refid=store

If you still can't read the card using a 3rd party reader, either the card is bad or there is an issue with your PC...
