Cody's Threaded SMS

I've been using Cody's threaded SMS app for a few months now. No real problems, other than it somewhat randomly opens itself up. Just wondering if there was an update I missed for a fix. I searched for a while but couldn't find anything.
I did see that Cody posted a set of instructions on treocentral that was different from what I did. My install was just a .cab, and didn't include overwriting files. Is this a change I need to do for a newer version of the app? If so, does it fix the randomly opening problem? I don't have the outlook messaging stuff anymore, so its not like i missed a step or anything.

This is really the only reason I'm considering switching to WM6.1.
If there was a fix, I would be fine with 6.0 for a while longer. Thanks.

Mods: I know PPCGeeks can't post up the Threaded SMS app anymore, but hopefully it was OK to ask for support. If its not, feel free to close the thread.

I appreciate your advise. I have a lot of sensitive information on my microSD card, some personal, some professional. Until the encryption on the microSD is finalized, I'm gonna have to wait. That, or I stop using my Mogul for work for a while. If you have any information related to the OP problem, let me know.

Cody's instructions are for older AKU builds of WM5. You should be using a newer version of the app installer which is just a single cab. The latest version is the WM6 threaded SMS which was pulled from a WM6 upgraded Treo 750. That has been out for a while though and you might already have it installed.

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

Thanks. 2 questions though:
1) So does this mean the random opening of the app has not been fixed?

and

2) In HTC Home, when I hit the middle text messages button, it opens both my email AND Cody's SMS app. And the number also doesn't work (goes to 2, then goes back to 0 on incoming text) Is there a fix for this? Thanks.

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

I had the app randomly open, but I didn't have the 2nd issue you described and I used it for over a year (Treo 700wx then on my Mogul).

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

no2chems encryption is fixed and i believe so is dcds.

qbunnie 03-13-2008 11:14 PM

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

dcd's is not fixed...
"KNOWN ISSUES:
Encryption had to be completely removed to be fixed.
PIE will NOT work with cache located on storage card. WM6.1 bug."
Are you sure no2chem's has encryption?
Even if it does, it isn't helping my OP. I know I can upgrade, but it is currently my personal preference not to. I will once either dcd or no2chem put out a finalized build.
If you know a fix to either the app opening (which looks like everybody deals with)
or at least the HTC Home error, please let me know.
I am using the HHC final V1.0 and HTC v 2.1 with the fix for local cities.
I have installed/uninstalled the SMS app and HTC Home, still does the same thing.
Just based on observation, it looks like when hit the text messages button it first opens the messaging selector (with all your emails) and THEN opens text messaging. If it is the threaded SMS app, then it opens the Palm application. If it is the built in poutlook app, it simply 'selects' the text messaging option on the selector screen. I say this because even when the threaded SMS app isn't installed, the selection screen comes of for a split second. Is there a registry fix or something for this? And is it related to why the number is flaky? Thanks.
Thanks.

yea i have the problem as you, the first not the second, its really annoying sometimes. I know we are not allowed to do anything with the Codyppc Threaded SMS on this forum but if anyone knows of a way to fix that first problem please let me know. Thanks

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

well i dont use dcds rom i use no2chems it is simply a suggestion i personally didnt care for codys sms because of my on screen keyboard.i believe it will be a long time till either of them think about having a final build. i have the two programs you mentioned installed on his most recent build and everything works awesomely.the encryption issue is addressed here.

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

Thanks again for your advice. I think that both HHC and HTC Home will work very well with WM6.1 built in threaded app, as you have confirmed. And I understand that it will be a long time before there is a finalized build or official kitchen. The thing is, if you haven't noticed, I don't like bugs. Even if minor, I'm a little OCD and will spend longer than I should looking for a fix. Problem is, I don't think you can get away from bugs on any WM platform. But I'm looking to minimize them. I unfortunately no longer have Cody's SMS installed, but if somebody let's me know of a fix, I will be thrilled to reinstall. I think most people would say that the threaded SMS is worth the bugs it has, unfortunately, I do not. I did say in my OP that the threaded SMS is the only reason I was considering switching, but I don't believe the added bugs of a non-finalized build would be worth it. Again, thank you for the advice, and it may seem to you that I am being irrational. Perhaps I am, but that is not something that I can change.

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

Hello,

I have both HHC and HTC Home installed on my ppc6800 w/WM6. I have done nothing to the rom.
I installed codyPPC WM6 threaded SMS noSoftKey.cab since I wanted threaded sms and so far I love it except that it set me txt indicator to vibrate.
I have checked every setting that I can think of and can not get it to stop vibrating. Everything is set to ring. If it keeps up, I'm afraid I will have to uninstall it.

Can anyone help me out?

thanks in advance

In Sounds and Notification, make sure you are changing the incoming text message that has (Palm) after it. Hopefully that will work.

That did it! so many thinks, I held off from asking for a while now and go figure it was something that simple that I was missing. I had just changed the wrong one.

You can't ask for that on this forum. It's software developed by Palm that Cody and some others modified to work on other devices. It is considered software piracy, and is against the rules of this forum. Your best advice is to follow the post above and google it. You may also want to search a couple of other forums such as wmexperts and treocentral.

My general suggestions are to:

1. Uninstall threaded SMS and reboot
2. Turn off phone radio
3. Delete ALL sms from default app (inbox, sent, draft, etc)
4. Reinstall threaded sms cab
5. Turn phone radio back on
6. reboot

Has anyone ran across the problem of sending everyone the last message you sent them in your conversations when you reply to a new text? Other than this I love this program, but this bug is getting annoying (for both me and my contacts)

Does anyone have a solution to fix the problem of Threaded SMS opening on its own throughout the day, this is really annoying. I really want threaded SMS without upgrading to the new WM6.1

If somebody will let me know that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Sprint Mogul user here. I've been trying that, but no matter what I do I am still getting a vibration when I'm inside the program--that is, if the chat window is open. When I'm on the today screen, there is no vibration.

Does anybody else know of another solution? I've tried the cab from WM6_threaded.zip and also from Threaded_SMS.zip, both from Cody.

Thanks! The vibration is driving me crazy!

I think the best thing is to use WM 6.1 with its built-in Threaded-SMS :)

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

Quick Note:
Issues with Cody (aka Palm) threaded SMS is that if someone sends you an sms over the character limit (usually 160) you will not get the message.

With Native Threaded SMS (WM6.1 threader that is with the WM6.1 ROM) if someone sends you an SMS over 160 characters, you will get the message (it will come as 2 txt messages).

Brera 04-04-2008 05:21 PM

Re: Cody's Threaded SMS

i get messages over 160 characters all the time, indeed today i had one that was 3 messages long, all three messages were recieved back to back in Codys threaded.
Im using a Sprint Vouge
