S2U2-what is the purpose

I have read numerous threads about S2U2. I am thinking about installing it. I read somewhere that it can't be uninstalled. Is that true? It seems that everyone is using it for wallpaper. What is the real purpose of having this program?

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

It locks the screen so you dont accidentally call people ect. but it provides all the info you need off you're today screen without opeing up your ppc. like sms count, email, missed calls, time, next appointment. and it uninstalls just fine. install it. im sure you will enjoy

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

It can be removed if you don't like it....

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

I never got it either. You will still have to turn the screen on to see it, and it adds yet another step to get to your phone. It shows what you have on your today screen most likely, but you dont get this information any quicker than if you didnt have it installed. I guess if you ALWAYS wanted your phone locked, on top of pressing the power button and having the screen and all other keys lock until you press it again, its a good program.

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

its one of those preference things really... its nice and all, but when you think about the real purpose.. its supposed to lock the phone up like he said... in which you already have an option on your phone to do so.. also... well i mean, you simply hit the power button on the top of your touch to turn off the screen.. you cant accidentally call someone or open a program on accident.. so i never really saw the need in getting it.. unless you jus wanted to customize your phone to make it look kool, but honestly i kinda think its a pointless app

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

Lets not forget full screen caller ID! And any part of the program can be shut off and allow other parts to run. BOO

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

and i think the real locking purpose is for like when you get a call or a text and your screen turns on, s2u2 keeps it locked and shuts the screen off again.

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

The reason why I use S2U2 is that using the default keyguard while playing music just stops the music on my phone. S2U2 lets me listen to music just fine with the screen locked.

I manually enable S2U2 when I need it. It's not on all the time.

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

ive been using the program since it first came out. i was always the type of person who would have his cell phone in his pocket and my phone would jus randomly call someone, burning up all my day time mins. not only that, magnets on my cell phone cases triggered my screen to come on also.... then here it goes all over again, draining my battery and calling people, opening my apps and all. i got my hands on slide to unlock, never had to worry about these problems ever again.

To annoy people with iPhones, mostly ;)

Seriously, the screen lock is such a PITA to use, this just works, and if you enable the dpad to unlock its simple to power on + ulock without touching the pen, or 99% of the time just power on look at clock and calendar (and weather) and it powers off 10 seconds later...

Well either you use the stock lock app and hit power then unlock or you use s2u2 and hit power then slide the slider. It's no harder to use and looks nicer. I also like the full screen caller ID and how it shows the big clock, weather, email count, text count, etc.

I don't want my phone to be an iphone really but the sliding lock is a nice app. I like WM because you can usually find an app to do the things you like. I prefer my WM phone due to the added functionality but that doesn't mean I don't like anything from the iphone interface.

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

I feel sorry for all the people that lead such busy lives that an extra 3-5 second step gets in the way of their productivity.

I like it because I get a big clock, weather, SMS/Email/VMail counts, and a picture of my daughter up on the screen, which frees me to remove much of the clutter from the today screen so I can have a decent picture there too.

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

Thanks everyone for the information. I think I'll skip this app. for right now. I have pictures of my family on my phone so I can just view them as I want. I don't want to add another step to get to the Today screen.

without s2u2 i get a bunch of missed calls cuz the phone never wakes up froma voice call or text messages ..
with s2u2, it does its job and wakes the phone up right away. no more missed calls and missed text messages :)

Good point, I didn't think about that.

i dont no about you but when i had s2u2 my phone had a huge delay when people tried to call me. i once timed it and it took about 30seconds before my phone would start to ring. so i got rid of the app ASAP..

AnthroMatt 02-25-2008 10:27 AM

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

30 seconds? I would think that before it made it to 30 seconds it would have kicked over to voicemail and your phone wouldn't have rung at all?

I haven't missed any more calls than usual with S2U2 installed, though it is possible it adds a slight delay...but it appears it is a negligible one, at least for me.

nxtech3 02-25-2008 10:32 AM

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

I am not seeing any delays at all with the phone.

@Drakeford, It does provide a functioning clock and event reminder(text, voicemail, weather, etc) plus its fully customizable, you can change the backround the clock, the slider ,the slidebar to your own personal preference. Search this forum for S2U2 and also xda-developers.com you will find some good info

As ppl have stated, it not needed but OMG, is it a nice program to have!!!!! :ro: I got tired of being on the phone and my cheek opening up applications that I don't want open.

da.bell, can S2U2 prevent my cheeks from opening other apps. That happens to me each time I use the phone. If that's the case I'm sold. Please confirm.

It does work. Just make sure in the settings that "Black Screen on Talk" is set to On in the "On Battery Power" and in "On External Power" areas.

What is the most current version of this app. The last version I had on my touch would activate after only a few seconds and I could never get it to delay the time it took to lock the phone. Is it possible now to have S2U2 only lock the phone when you hit the power button? I dont want it to lock the phone until the screen turns off.

To delay the activation time you need to change the backlight timeout in your phones settings. The program is set to lock when the backlight goes off, and the default setting on my Touch was 10 seconds. I upped it to 30 seconds.

Uzip the download on your desktop PC.

Read the enclosed 'read me' text file.

Basically, you take the .Cab file from the unzipped files, copy to your PPC (either the mem card or \device\my documents\, then click on the cab file. Install to DEVICE only. Then read the 'read me' text again on how to customize.

Simple

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

S2U2 allows for you to completely turn off the "lock on backlight" feature, so it works perfectly if you just want it locked when you hit the power button. Personally this app is great, and prevents your phone from doing random things if the power button gets hit (in your pocket etc..) I also love the fact that it can be set to display your calendar events( i use this lots for my college schedule), and gives you a countdown till the next time you have to wake up(depending on what alarms you have set). all and all i'd reccomend at least giving the app a try.

There are 2 files for the S2U2 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353008. Should both be downloaded?

I loved the program, but when I had it installed, I was missing calls like crazy!! Tested it a bunch and my test phone would just ring my cell till it went to VM and my cell never rang.

Can't have that happen so the program is GONE!!

Nope, you just need the first rar file. Good luck and I am sure you like it.

personally, i didnt see any use for this program.
if i wanna lock my phone, i'll just press the power button, and i keep my ringer off anyways.

it looks good and works great, its just useless to me.

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

while i can see both sides of it, it's still a pretty slick app. my main problem is that for some reason it'll randomly go into flight mode once s2u2 starts up and completely freeze the phone, and that's after several soft resets and re-installs. tried searchin for info on this and couldn't find anything. anyone else run into this? ](*,)

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

I just installed it now, so I'l give you my honest review in a day or two. I installed it because from what most of you have said, it keeps random events from happening on your phones while in the pocket. I've pulled my phone out a lot and have had weird stuff up, like Internet Explorer, or contacts, or sometimes I've had to shut down multiple programs! Hope this helps. I'll let you know. Thanks for everyone who gave their opinions. I'll give mine too.

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

Drakeford....you definitely want to start by installing the v1.00 CAB (the first link you list)

As far as the language packs go, you only need to use one if you want anything other than English on your device.

The clock pack is totally optional, there are just more clocks you can place in the five clock files A_C has in the GFX folder.

To really get a good explanation though I would really suggest reading the first, and DEFINITELY the second posts here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588

Re: S2U2-what is the purpose

My actual situations:

1. Power off phone and put it in it's case and in my pocket. !00% of the time the phone will power on and call the last person that I called an infinite number of times.

2. I learned my lesson and used lock then turn my phone on. Someone called and the talk button was hit so it answered without my knowlege. The phone then proceeded to call them back repeatedly for hours until I checked it.

That is a good reason to have S2U2. Setting that you have to slide to answer prevents the auto answer while in my pocket.
