New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
I posted this in the titan section as well:
YO YO! lol i previously had a toshiba notebook running windows xp. It worked fine and I had no problems getting 1500 down and 400 up. I sold this one yesterday and ugraded to a newer toshiba running vista. This is what happens... I start internet sharing, and it connects fine, status goes to "connected". Internet works fine for about a minute. Then, any page I visit wont open and i get the "page cannot be displayed" message, but heres the kicker, INTERNET SHARING STILL SAYS CONNECTED!!! I have restarted the computer and mogul, tried different USB ports, still the same deal. Browsing in PIE works fine though... lastly, before I get the "page cannot be displayed" error, a quick screen comes up saying something like DNSerror. But no errors if im browsing from my phone. What gives? i cant figure this out and i HAAAATE when i cant figure stuff out. Please help guys ](*,) |
Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
well my man, there's one minor problem with PIE, and that's the fact that it cannot view all pages that we visit. as for internet sharing, i haven't used it that much to tell ya if it has any issues to troubleshoot, but if i did, i'd have an answer for you and everyone else with the same problem in a heartbeat.

Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
vista users can setup their devices through windows mobile device center before they do an activesync setup, but you can find it here...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...icecenter.mspx this could work properly after the pre-sync setup as i would put it, but then again, i'll have to do some more homework on internet sharing some more. |
Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
ill try this. will report back

Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem

Just checking the simple stuff and I'm sure you've done this already, but you have to be surfing on your mogul before connecting Internet Sharing and then to the laptop. Also, b_prime is correct, but I believe there is an update to Mobile Device Center regarding improved Vista drivers. Check the link below: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en I think this finally got me to the promised land....posting this on my vista toshiba laptop while Internet Sharing, btw. |
Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
this is really getting to me....ive updated wmdc, always sure that internet is connected on mogul first(or ill get error 67), unabled and enabled advanced network functionality, I cant figure this out. Ive checked to ensure that no firewalls/anti virus programs are killing the connection, still no luck. What bothers me is that internet sharing still says connected. I just dont get it. Im about to jump off of a bridge if i dont get this figured out.
AuburnMK- may I ask what model number your toshiba is? I have a A215 series notebook. **UPDATE** I finally got speedtest.net to load, and im usually around 1100-1500k download, i only hit around 400k, so maybe there could be something wrong with the network around cleveland, ohio. Thats the only other thing I could think of. Any more help would be appreciated-ill report back tomorrow morning, thanks for the input guys |

Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
I have no problems with Vista ultimate tethering or running a ruu and flashing roms, but I did have to go to Microsoft and download a updated Mobile device center driver. Try this "Click Me" 32 bit driver.
|
Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
okay so i tested it again, this morning, and its doing the EXACT same thing again. LSME420, ive downloaded the 32 bit Vista WMDC update yesterday, i just dont get it, It works fine for a few minutes, and then gives me the message page cant be displayed, even though mogul still says connected, shit, the computer still says it connected to the modem!!!! Browsing over wifi or lan still working fine. I just dont understand this.

Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
that could be a possibility, ill check that out, but I would think if the drivers were missing or corrupt, then it wouldnt connect at all..and it does the exact opposite. It connects fine, and its almost like a dark little kid comes along and kicks the connection without the phone or computer realizing that the connection is gone. Configfree even says connected and functioning properly.
lsme: r u using the latest satelitte series? (A215-xxxxx)? |
Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
The Satellite I have is a A105-s4094 "Specs" 120 gig HD, 2 gig ddr2 Ram. The only thing I don't like about it is the mouse touchpad. I'm always hitting a corner and minimizing the window or closing it.

Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
the notebook i just sold was a A105-s4284, if i cant figure this out i will try pdanet or somin like that. I hate to do a restore on my new computer, cuz i just x-ferred all of my stuff to it, (about 15 gigs worth).
The new one i have is pretty much the same set-up as yours, 1.9 ghz AMD athlon X2(64 bit) gig of ram and 120 gb HD. I just wanted the new look, lol im a spoiled brat. Running 32 bit Vista Home. You can disable that utility for the touchpad. I actually like that feature. MSconfig will let u know what proggies start at boot, and just find the file and disable it. |

Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
Hey Success...if you recently updated your mogul to the new rom you may want to go into the registry on your phone and change the Multi NAI as per the registry hack and then go into ##data# and change it to mobile ip preferred. I was having a similar issue on my notebook and once i made the multi nai tweak it worked. Well at least temporarily, i can connect and browse on my notebook but i get the remote party has terminated the connection about every hour or so. I just reconnect and keep on truckin...hope this helps

Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
for all those who are still following this, I think it was something wrong with the phone, for some reason it wouldnt play nice with my computer, but worked fine on others. I upgraded to No2chems rom, and all is well now. Thanks for all of the help though
EDIT: SPOKE TO DAMN SOON!!! same thing just happened. im thru with this |
Re: New Vista Notebook-internet Sharing Problem
i had the same error. i contacted sprint. they told me i had to purchase the "internet sharing" which they said that its a seperate modem. and then he said for 39.99 a month you can get it up and running. and i said. for a 600 dollar phone. i cant get a god damn thing for free. and also complained about the mms. pic mail. so he gave me a 20% off discount on my phone bill. lol.
