Best PPC APP Available?

5 Attachment(s)
I'd like to get some get responses on this...

What is the best PPC APP (free or not) out there in your opinion? If you inclined to do so, please explain why.

For me, it has to be SPB Pocket Plus

http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en

Current verision is 4.0
Cost is $29.95, unless you upgrade from 3.0, then $14.95 (BS)

There are applications with more specific functions (GPS, Music, etc.) but, IMO, this product brings it all together. This includes everything from scrolling contacts & scrolling in PIE (which can have multiple tabs), a highly customizable today screen plug-in with the ability for other SPB & Non-SPB software plug-ins, to basic items like X-button, and multiple battery display options. True, I use many other programs, but this is the 1st thing I always install, along with all of my Icon sets from here...

http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10632
(Props once again to the stoned poster, Jayweezie, apache, ridolfo, and others)

Not only does this app optimize the way the device SHOULD work, but the customization level is ILauncheresque, but more practical. Let's be honest, we all care how our set-up looks or we wouldn't participate in the screenshot thread, but it's also about functionality. I have had PPCs for years, and I haven't found anything that blends everything together better than SPB PP4.

And no, I'm happy w/my current employment, not seeking position w/SPB.

Here are some screenshots of my set-up, icons courtesy of above SPB club link.

Side note: My set-up may look basic, but believe when I say that I have sampled everything available. My opinion is not based on lack of exposure other software or customizations. I just find that this set-up is a nice mix of style, functionality, and device performance.

My vote goes for eMule.

Only because all of the software that is discussed on ppcgeeks is available on eMule.

Dagger969 02-03-2008 05:36 AM

ive had better luck on irc

Genjinaro 02-03-2008 11:33 AM

I say Resco Explorer
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp

If anything it should be pre-installed on every PPC available.
Why you ask?
Compare any file explorer to this one & you'll find you answer, its simply everything you could ever want in one File Explorer.

I must have some bad PPC karma...I loved this app, but I was one of the people who would consistently miss texts altogether and occasionally it would not send messages, although it displayed that it sent in the chat window. On multiple occasions, I would receive a text with the program installed and it would be filed in the default text inbox, which I had to remove cody's program to access.

Too many problems..Bummer too, I really liked it...Especially since I receive about 20-30 text daily with News, Sports, weather, etc. It's nice to have those in a threaded window, as oppose to the default set up.

caddieguy02 02-03-2008 06:55 PM

oh and by the way...i see the colts on ur screen but where are the pacers? not riding with our hometown boys in there time of distress?

dmcintosh24 02-03-2008 08:35 PM

i'd say pointui it brought life back to my wm5 phone

Geekcop 02-03-2008 08:47 PM

I must agree with OvenDoor. PocketPlus does a great job of organizing the Today screen and in general, includes does all of the things that WM would have done, had Microsoft really put some thought into it. I installed PP about two weeks ago and am now wondering why I didnt do it a lot sooner. Enough....my martini awaits :drunken:

The 4 tab icons up top open the last 4 screen shots..

The 360 controller opens up my game section. (3rd attached image in the OP)

I am (4th attached image in the OP, with all of my other web links)

They are making it tough to be a fan right now, but I'm still hopeful for the playoffs.

BTW- If JO doesn't want to be around, which he doesn't, we need to move him now while we can.

I've never heard this...specifically, the flight mode suggestion. I might give it a shot. Thanks.

caddieguy02 02-04-2008 10:55 AM

hey OVENDOOR i agree, its tough to be a fan of the pacers right now...damn Tinsley i hate him with a passion...i love ur set up tho...

now back to the topic...i think the LIVESEARCH is the best thing since slicedbread...i travel alot and that thing comes in handy, not just in other cities but right here in Naptown aswell...it sometimes has things like phone numbers and stuff that my TOMTOM does not...but to keep it fair i havent experimented with some of the apps listed in some of these others posts, so maybe ima little biased

Success100 02-04-2008 11:19 AM

gps in livesearch on the new rom is prob the best free option out there!

I reinstalled Cody Threaded SMS, with the above recommendations, I have yet to put it through rigorious testing (I was missing a lot of texts with previous installs)

Has this been discussed somewhere? Specifically, clearing out the text folders and putting the phone into flight mode before the install?

Yes, extensively ;)

I never had any issues with the app when I had it on my Mogul. Wish it'd worked on the Touch, well it works, but the keyboard covers the input box. I would still use it weren't it for that...

WarRaven 02-05-2008 12:44 AM

Did you consider using the Reg tweak to allow movement of your SIP?

I haven't tried this app, but would love too on hearing so much good about till i seen similiar from other Touch users like yourself, now that this tweak has been spotted, is it better for you perhaps?

Ill have to say codyppc's sms threader.. i have no idea what i would do with out it:headbang:

VW 02-05-2008 10:52 AM

I like PocketCMs SMS

It would be interesting to take a poll of top 16 or 32 apps and do a weekly vote until one comes out as champion

Success100 02-05-2008 10:55 AM

theres a new sms app that blows codyppcs away...and u guys know i stand by his app..

Are you refering to FunContact or SMS-Chat from Vito Tech? The Link brings me to FunContact but I thought you were refering to threaded SMS?

Thanks;
David

This app looks just like pocketcm which is free. why is it any better?

Re: Best PPC APP Available?

Pocketcm is cool....It is kinda slow sometimes. I run it on my Touch. It holds me down on the SMS though.

Re: Best PPC APP Available?

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet or not, but IMO you can't have a touch phone without something like Phone ScreenLock. This should be installed standard on the Touch:

Nice to see an old thread rejuvenated.....I like this idea. Someone should put together a Best PPC App poll. Voting and comments, that would be interesting.

Re: Best PPC APP Available?

at this point in time its hard for me to decide on a 'killer app'
the one app i have to have on my ppc after a fresh hard reset would have to be opera mini hands down

Re: Best PPC APP Available?

Ultimate Launch or Quick Menu.

Ultimate Launch is by far the best today screen customizer I have found.

Quick Menu is such a good app you forget it is there. Task manager, cascading start menu and memory manager. It just works.

Re: Best PPC APP Available?

I would probably have to say Slide 2 Play because I just can't get enough music. Until S2P there hasn't been a player out there that integrated ease of use, style, and performance so well IMO.
