jayweezie21 12-19-2007 07:12 PM

KMyers 12-19-2007 10:22 PM

I have the answer, There is a thing called SpoofCard

It will not only allow you to place ANY number on the persons caller ID, It will let you record calls and even use a VoiceChanger

Unfortunately it is not free

jayweezie21 12-20-2007 12:24 AM

yeah spoofcard was the site i saw from the voice changer thread...pretty dumb to pay for it tho

Only in the UK can you program your outbound Skype CID, here in the US they do not allow it for legal reasons.

Due to the legalities of spoofing caller id in the public domain, you want a company which charges you, maintains their own legal fund and generally wont throw you under the bus in case of something happening due to a clients actions.

It would be "Pretty Dumb" to use a lesser service which left you liable. I gladly pay for something so valuable, i use the service while working on client background history and debt collection.

They are working hard to make caller ID spoofing illegal, this is a hot issue in congress right now.

Its not as easy as just running a program due to the way telco works.

Spoofcard.com is the best service.

lol

FYI on another note, there are some SIP (think voip software based phones) which may let you do CID spoofing on the outbound.

I am looking trying to find you a real link for reference.

jayweezie21 12-20-2007 10:45 AM

thanks but its not necessary or that important i really was just curious about a program of some sort if it was available. hell i could just block my number why go out and get a new phone lol =)

stroths 12-20-2007 12:55 PM

With regular calls, you would have to go through a 3rd party and have them change the CID.

I read somewhere a while back that someone achieved this by setting something up on their home phone system where they would call home then have it route to a number of their choice. Their system could change the CID.

For a direct call, only your carrier can change your CID.

jayweezie21 12-20-2007 01:01 PM

ohhh explains it then... thanks for the feedback

I have an Asterisk phone system i set up which allows this. Its tricky but you can configure a skype gateway which would then allow you to choose your outbound ID. Its not a setup for the noob, i takes someone who is familiar with asterisk

^^ yes. provider decides if he wants to you change cid. Most of the voip providers will let you display custom id.

Here's something.. similar, although only useful to text to message reading.

Hi, no, I don't know of any software, but after reading this thread, I can offer you some hope.

A number of years ago, a company I was working for purchased 'a new fangled Windows-based PBX' (the vendor has since gone bankrupt). However, we had the machine connected to an ISDN/PRI service from our local telco. During installation/configuration, we found a parameter which was to be the 'display ANI' (what the called party should see as CallerID). We could set that value to anything.

Now, in my current company, we have some testing software which lets us call our phone system with any CallerID we need (because we need to simulate inbound calls from all over North America).

What this tells me is that with digital service, it is the (digital) dialing device (ie. CPE) which passes it's ID to the telco for forwarding on to the next hop so that it eventually appears at the other end.

So, given some of the nifty tools that I'm learning about (eg. QPST, etc.) I would think that someone with enough time & technical capability should be able to create the application you're looking for.

Hope this helps...

somebody with knowhow should follow up on this

well anythng is possible but..... The reason it works using a ISDN/PRI is that the telco is accepting the id from the PBX through the D channel. So yes, using a ISDN test set or software on a PBX, you can send whatever id on that ISDN/PRI circuit.

Sprint does not use ISDN/PRI circuits to the telco, they have multiple channelized T1's to various telcos, the caller id is sent across an SS7 link through an STP to the telco.

QFE

your other option is learn how the telephone system works and set it up your self... but I doubt you'll ever do that
