Contacts looks empty but view concacts in phone and they're there
 

My dad has been given an Omnia with the stock Verizon ROM. I set it up for him with some software and everything was working great. He then went to a Verizon store to have it activated, and when he brought it back, it had a really weird issue:
If you activate Contacts, it's empty - it shows nothing whatsoever. But if you choose to display contacts from the phone, you can see all the ones he synchronized from his laptop! Oddly, one of the softbuttons, which I mapped to Contacts, now no longer launches Contacts at all. I have no idea what they did at the store or if it's a coincidence. How do I get Contacts to work properly again?
