alright so everytime i make/receive a call, i get signed off the screenname i am signed on to with octro. i know this cause i sit at my computer on one screenname on AIM and when someone calls me and i answer or i make a call, my sn on octro signs off then when i hang up, signs right back in.. is this normal or no?
|
If you are using gprs to connect to the Internet, this would seem to be normal behavior as the gprs connection is interrupted when the phone is in use. At least that has been my experience. Can you use the web browser while the phone is in use?

Customizing Octrotalk in Home Screen
Is it possible to change the font size, x position etc of the Octrotalk plug-in on the home screen, i love the tool but the plug-in style is clashing with my super good-looking home screen right now :)

New AIM transport
We have released a new AIM transport (the backend server that let's connect to AIM), and it should resolve the issues some users (particular UserIDs) were having trying to connect to AIM -- no need to use the ICQ transport for connecting to AIM.
Also, about video messaging -- it is on our list of things to do -- hopefully, we will get to it soon. |
Pending Issues / Upgrades
Octro,
Is there a list of pending suggestions / upgrades / fixes that can be viewed so we do not keep bugging you about things you are already addressing? A change log might be nice with each release as well so we know what to test. |
Does this or will this ever include Yahoo Messenger?
I currently have Verichat and my liscense isn't supposed to expire until Nov but I have been unable to connect for the past few days. All of my contacts are on Yahoo, that's why I ask? |

BTW, we updated our AIM and ICQ transports so that now you can sign in using any AIM username to AIM, and the ICQ transport now downloads the nicks. Octro Support Team |
I was able to sucessfully call a landline phone using this Octro and the gtalk2voip service. It looks like each e-mail address is given a free 2cents, which should give you between 1-2 minutes depending on the number you call.
gtalk2voip has the option to use multiple services to connect your call. Once it gets the number you want to dial, it will dynamically choose the cheapest service to connect your call! The rates I have received are much cheaper than rates from Skype. You just need to be sure to enter the number in the form 1-123-123-1234 w w w . gtalk2voip . c o m While I was able to get outgoing calls to work using the bot, which is now listed as the old way on the site. Be sure to CALL the service @ talk2voip . com user before entering the "call" command. Unfortunately, incoming calls from a landline phone don't seem to be working yet. |
I might have missed it...
Is there a SIP VoIP client out there that doesn't have any other frills on it? Something simple and fast, I hope. |
Im getting a message ths morning "the licensing server for octrotalk could not be reached. please try again after some time, if you need help please contact support@octro.com" never got that message before. and another note it keeps booting me off aim after like 5 mins. Im using the newest version by the way...any suggestions?

The licensing server issue should be fixed now.
Octro Support Team |
We were having problems with the legacy transports for the last week or so, which caused them to go offline every now and then. This caused connections to MSN/Y!/AIM/ICQ very erratic. We have finally resolved tihs issue, and all systems are stable.

new version 1.16 just came out!!!
|
it wont let me install the new program 1.16 afther i install it its say 1.15 i even earase the cab files and cokkies and the other stuff and reboot and still
|
We have fixed the issue. Somehow the build on our OTA server didn't get updated properly.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Release Notes for OctroTalk (Windows Mobile Pocket PC) v. 1.16 * You can now connect to any Jabber account -- not just GTalk. * Changes for Legacy accounts, so that status changes are more consistent. * Other minor UI changes, and bug fixes. Octro Support Team |
I updated to v1.16 from v1.15 last night without any issue. However I am looking forward to see the future version on new logic that will re-connect to legacy transports automatically upon disconnection from GTalk.
One question for Octro Support Team, when "Display message on screen" is enabled from Settings->Sounds & Notifications->Notifications, why does Notification not remain on Today screen upon arrival of new instant message (i.e. behaves similar like "Reminder" on Today that temporarily replaces Messaging with Notifications at the lower left screen corner)? The Octro icon flashes momentarily next to Start but is gone within a few seconds, and so is the Notification. This does not help when the notification sound or vibration was missed. The only way to find out if there is a new instant message is to enable Octro in Today's plugin. IMHO, keeping the notification status on is useful (especially I use a logic that turns on and blinks LED whenever Notification status is on) whenever the device left unattended. If the notification remains on so the LED blinks, I then do not even need to check status in Today screen while the screen is off. Hope you will consider Notification "remain on" feature in your future release. Lastly many thanks for the great work so far and prompt email responses; OctroTalk definitely gives us another excellent choice among various IM apps nowadays. Cheers, Tony SF, CA |

Latest OctroTalk version and OctroTalk for Windows
OctroTalk for Windows has been released, and is available for download from our website (www.octro.com).
If you are PPC/Smartphone user, and want to access your PC files (image/music etc.) on the go or you want to backup your documents/photos from your PPC to your Desktop, you can do this using OctroTalk for Windows, and its file sharing capabilities. For this, you will need to create another account (separate from your PPC/Smartphone account) -- you can do it directly from OctroTalk (create an octro.net account). Then from your Desktop account, add your Pocket PC account as a buddy. Then share a folder with your Pocket PC account. Pocket PC users can send files/photos to this buddy, and it will automatically accept the file and save it in the shared folder. Very easy to backup your photos/documents. The latest version of OctroTalk also support Jabber Conferencing. By default the conferencing server is set to conference.octro.net. There is a chat room there called octro. Please drop by and discuss OctroTalk there. You can let us know the features you want or discuss any issues you are having with OctroTalk. You may also create your own conference rooms there or on any other jabber server. Lastly, we would like to encourage users to send email to support@octro.com -- we want to hear from you. We want to know what you want more from this product, or you can just drop us a note letting us know whether you liked the product or not. |
Well, the license for version 1.17 has expired today.
Any updates coming out? The Octro website still has 1.17. |

Does Octro, or will Octro support AIM group chat? our office uses AIM and they are always in a chatroom, since I am a system engineer I am hardly ever at my desk. I have been unable to find any PPC clients that support aim chatrooms.

offline messages?
Hi,
why do I love this app? its saving me from the $15 a month ($180) a year on tmobile text messages which I really dont need because of the internet plan. the feature that needs to be added most IMO is offline messages. there must be an easy way for octro to log you in as offline in the server and save your messages. then when you reconnect send the messages to you. This is a very important feature. I think Mundu IM does it but I don't think it worked cause I tried signing off and sending myself a message with mundu and didnt receive it. it is a very important feature because it can get really hard to talk to someone if you might have missed a few messages and neither party knows you missed the messages and theyre lost in cyberworld cause your connection was re-connecting Thhanks |
In the interim, why not use Palringo and setup a group for you to chat on.

Any plans to make this software available on WM2003 devices? When I try and run the cab file on my X50, it says it's not a vaild CE file.
