BTW, we updated our AIM and ICQ transports so that now you can sign in using any AIM username to AIM, and the ICQ transport now downloads the nicks. Octro Support Team |
I was able to sucessfully call a landline phone using this Octro and the gtalk2voip service. It looks like each e-mail address is given a free 2cents, which should give you between 1-2 minutes depending on the number you call.
gtalk2voip has the option to use multiple services to connect your call. Once it gets the number you want to dial, it will dynamically choose the cheapest service to connect your call! The rates I have received are much cheaper than rates from Skype. You just need to be sure to enter the number in the form 1-123-123-1234 w w w . gtalk2voip . c o m While I was able to get outgoing calls to work using the bot, which is now listed as the old way on the site. Be sure to CALL the service @ talk2voip . com user before entering the "call" command. Unfortunately, incoming calls from a landline phone don't seem to be working yet. |
I might have missed it...
Is there a SIP VoIP client out there that doesn't have any other frills on it? Something simple and fast, I hope. |
Im getting a message ths morning "the licensing server for octrotalk could not be reached. please try again after some time, if you need help please contact support@octro.com" never got that message before. and another note it keeps booting me off aim after like 5 mins. The licensing server issue should be fixed now.

We were having problems with the legacy transports for the last week or so, which caused them to go offline every now and then. This caused connections to MSN/Y!/AIM/ICQ very erratic. We have finally resolved tihs issue, and all systems are stable.

We have fixed the issue. Somehow the build on our OTA server didn't get updated properly.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Release Notes for OctroTalk (Windows Mobile Pocket PC) v. 1.16 * You can now connect to any Jabber account -- not just GTalk. * Changes for Legacy accounts, so that status changes are more consistent. * Other minor UI changes, and bug fixes. Octro Support Team |
I updated to v1.16 from v1.15 last night without any issue. However I am looking forward to see the future version on new logic that will re-connect to legacy transports automatically upon disconnection from GTalk.
One question for Octro Support Team, when "Display message on screen" is enabled from Settings->Sounds & Notifications->Notifications, why does Notification not remain on Today screen upon arrival of new instant message (i.e. behaves similar like "Reminder" on Today that temporarily replaces Messaging with Notifications at the lower left screen corner)? The Octro icon flashes momentarily next to Start but is gone within a few seconds, and so is the Notification. This does not help when the notification sound or vibration was missed. The only way to find out if there is a new instant message is to enable Octro in Today's plugin. IMHO, keeping the notification status on is useful (especially I use a logic that turns on and blinks LED whenever Notification status is on) whenever the device left unattended. If the notification remains on so the LED blinks, I then do not even need to check status in Today screen while the screen is off. Hope you will consider Notification "remain on" feature in your future release. Lastly many thanks for the great work so far and prompt email responses; OctroTalk definitely gives us another excellent choice among various IM apps nowadays. Cheers, Tony SF, CA |
