Facebook App for windows mobile
why is our facebook application so foolishly designed as compared to the iPhone and Android devices?:angry7:

I wonder that myself sometimes. not a big fan of m.facebook.com either. wish I had an answer for ya but not an expert in why people do the things they do. I can suggest trying www.touch.facebook.com. it works for me |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
what is so bad about our facebook???

Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
Also, Blackberry has a really awesome Facebook app. Seem WM is very neglected.

I find it pretty useful. Didn't know iPhone has a built in Facebook app??? |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
i can post on walls, send mail, look at pics, respond to notifications, search for friends...
what else is there to do on facebook??? |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
I've noticed with the stock FB app that if I look at someone's wall, and they've made a post that got more than one comment...I can only see the last comment.
Anyone else notice this? |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
I find the MS FB app useful. I think iPhone has the only FB app made by FB, the rest are made by RIM, Androind, MS, or third party developers. The one thing I don't like about the MS FB app is that everytime I install it, my status changes to "...just installed Facebook for Windows Mobile." It's annoying and I wish I could change that (or maybe I can and I just don't know how).

There are a number of limitations to the WM FB app; I can't describe them all but I agree they are frustrating. I think the core of this is that WM is a less viable platform for development than iPhone, Android and BB to begin with (in terms of making money and earning market share); couple that with Microsoft's focus on Windows 7 Phone and you have a "why should we care" attitude toward anything that is available right now. I've spoken to developers who are working on apps for the 3 major platforms here in the States and when I mention Windows Mobile they just laugh. Doesn't make it right, but if you haven't invested heavily in a WM user base in the past (PocketShield, SPB, etc.) why bother now. |

Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
i like the regular version better only thing i see about the new one is you can add pics thats about i but on the tp2 when u hit send on pic it gives u a option to send to fb automically anyway so its not use to me. If it had chat then itll be somethin i can use

Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
I find the FB integration in Manila 2.5 much better than the app. Though you cant do certain things, there is no lag and is way more convenient.

- You cannot tag people (you can on Blackberry, maybe others) - You cannot write a caption AT ALL for photos (you can on Blackberry, maybe others) - You cannot view individually posted pics. You are taken to the entire album. - When you want to make a comment on something or write on someones wall, if you flip out the hardware keyboard and switch to landscape mode, anything you type doesn't save (that's right, try it). You have to either do it and not save, then try again (in the same screen orientation), or you have to remain in the same screen orientation the entire time from opening to close. - And for crying out loud, what is with "Button 1" and "Button 2"?? Did the developers really just give up and quit halfway?? - Just barely are we able to "like" posts. That is just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more problems. So yes, the Facebook app for Windows Mobile is aweful. Still. and worse yet, I bet nobody using it expects any updates. We just use this because that's all we get, and we know it. FB for WM = :angry7: |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
Opera Mini works pretty good for m.facebook.com. Its not perfect but I use it more than the FB app which I think is very limiting.

Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
The facebook application for WM isn't a complete fail, yet it severely lacks when compared to iPhone and Android applications. If you don't believe so, use these on a friends device and compare.
I have tried to post a comment when someone wrote on my wall, and it was posted on someone else's comment weeks previous. The person was not happy haha and needless to say I was not either While we are talking about things that aren't very good, can I include the search function on this site? I'm trying to search for a previous thread, as I know for sure there was one previous to this one, but the search takes forever to load, and generates less than desired results. I was going to link up the thread, but.....I have to go to class |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
Hey. I would have to agree with you guys on this. One thing that I would like to figure out how to do, but I fear it may be hopeless is how to save facebook profile pics. Mobile shell would sync your contacts with fb people and give you the option to use one of their fb pics. Outside of using mobile shell, or save the images on a pc, I cant figure out how to do so. You would think it would it would be a relatively easy thing to do.

Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
I've seen worse search features on other forums. Thing is if there is a question that has been asked several times, you should be able to find it with the search function, thus getting you an immediate answer as well as not creating a redundant thread. On the other hand, repeated questions keep this section going. It gives members an opportunity to help someone out and get their rep up instead of lurkers who get their info and leave.
Another thing considered bad forum is going way off the original topic, which is supposed to be the facebook app. If there are features missing that you'd like, try telling the developer so that the next version will have them. That way your complaints can be productive. @thestick00 Sense 2.5 has the option to link contacts to their facebook page. This will change their contact photo to their default facebook pic. |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
The only complaint I have about the dam thing is the whole part where it says "Logging in...." for a long long time.
Does that happen to anyone else??? |

MS screwed up when they thought that their way of wrong and Iphones was right. Android proves people can have some control over their devices yet, they still are plenty functional. |

- Still can't tag folks - If you go to the Facebook Mobile site, you can find your user specific email address that you can send pictures and videos to. This will let you add a subject line that then becomes the uploads caption. Just create a new contact on your phone for the email address they give you. - With the new version, you tap the image and you get a dialog to view photo and other stuff. Click view photo and you get to the single photo, but can browse teh album, or just click back softkey to go back to the main facebook app - Sliding out the keyboard keeps the text, just tried it. - All the button text as complete on my version - You can view profiles, view and make comments, like posts all from the News and Status pages |

Upon further review I might have to change to 'dislike' because I do have some issues/questions with the current MS app: 1) When I decide to make a comment in response to a newsfeed that hit my wall, my reply never shows up. Even after refresh, my reply comments don't show up. 2) When I go into photos, it sometimes hangs & nevers returns any photos. Are these things common issues with the latest MS version? |
Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
Yep..same thing here. Mine hangs all the times... doesn't actually send the text I type. I just use it to read and that's it. Otherwise I use the webpage version.

Re: Facebook App for windows mobile
So, any news on best FB app as of now? I'm stuck between using Iris to view and edit, then having to switch over to FIM just so I can chat with someone. Iris wont display the chat messages. Sometimes the bar appears when you are scrolling through the page, but you can't click on it. And when someone sends you an IM, it makes Iris bog down bad.
Is MS app still the best? Anyone have a link to a cab file for it? I'd like to download it straight to my phone instead of havving to turn my computer on and use Activesync. Such a PITA that way. |
