Soft-Reset Application

2 Attachment(s)
At only 6kb this tiny little app is a nice way to soft-reset your device with no hassle.

Simply install and look under your Program folder.

(Thanks to Hannip for re-finding it and packing into a .cab!) :thumbleft:

You can run it in silent mode to reset without confirmation using "...reset.exe" /s

Yeah, I think it's actually from PHM Power Toys:

Whomever originally built that 1st .cab threw that in there for the heck of it and people have been asking about it ever since...

yeap that looks like it exactly :D I never need an app to soft reset plus it saved memory thats y I removed it. :thumbleft:

Wouldn't it be quicker just hit the reset button with the stylus?

Not if you have a 700w/wx or 750.

The Reset button is near the battery e.g. you have to remove the battery cover to soft reset.

That's a standard Palm thing. Seidio even make some $$ by releasing a battery cover with a pre-drilled hole to stick in the stylus.

Plus after modding the registry you need to perform a "software reset" via 3rd party app to make sure changes are saved w/treo's, so this app is vital for many ppc users.

Wideawake 11-20-2006 03:41 AM

I find a manual soft reset seems to save any reg edits I do....

Certs 11-20-2006 04:46 AM

Yeah, the 3rd-party reset thing is treo-specific. I think it s because the treo registry is ROM-based, because tweaks2k2 has an option to make it file-based instead. Not 100% on that one though.

It is nice to have a app like this on a Treo. If I didn't like iLauncher's Task Manager so much, this little app would be on my Treo. I just wish that I didn't have to run iLauncher on my today screen. :(

surely it could be removed...may take alittle trial and error. its probably merely a reg edit. ;)

No it's not Treo based (that options works for the 6700 as well).

Though you are correct about using a software app to soft reset and saving changes to the registry.

Sure it is possible to do a physical soft-reset and still have your changes saved but it is recommended by many to use a 3rd party app as it seems to use a different method. YMMV.

Have you tried minimizing iLauncher?

On the Treo 750 the reset button is located behind the flap of the mini-SD. So you don't have to remove the batterycover. That is a big improvement over previous Treos.

I tried removing all the tabs, but it still shows about a ten pixel high area on my today screen. Like Mike mentioned I could find a reg edit that would take care of it. But this is my main phone, so I don't want to dig that deep into it.

Big D5 11-20-2006 11:31 PM

I like this, and was wondering when someone would come up with it. I was all most ready to drill a hole in my battery cover. Thanks Hannip and Malatesta yall saved me a little work with this one. :)

PlainShane 01-09-2008 03:07 PM

Thank you. I have been looking for an app which would only install a soft reset option! This is wonderful and small. Cheers
