PPCGeeks - Texting Problem with HTC Touch Pro 2 (NOT 2016 issue)

I recently got upgraded to a TP2 to replace my TP1. While I love the phone, I notice whenever Im texting back and forth with someone in a chat, after I exit, it will say I have 3-4 new messages on the msg icon, I then have to go back into the text chat each time and back out to make the number go down to 3-2-1- till its gone. Is there some setting or something to correct this? My TP1 never showed me any new messages if I was already in the chat and backed out of it, but this one continues to until I go in and out of that individual chat the number of times for each message received (while I was still in the chat) does that make sense? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Again, this is not the 2016 bug, the new message notification goes away after I go back into the chat and back out of it, but I just figure if Im in the chat, it shouldnt show me new messages, like the TP1 did
