I would guess it's the channel hack - according to wikipedia (see second post) the channel switches automatically - or the bitrate since a higher bitrate requires more resources (cpu/memory).

I did all of these hacks and the CDMA settings change posted at: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=899. I have had great sound quality, volume, and almost no issues with skipping (when I do it's either physical location of the device or it's in a very crowded environment with lots of interference).

I have the Sprint Mogul with 2.09 ROM, and I do NOT have these keys in my registry:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\Mic Volume
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\Spk Volume

So they are not "native" to ROM 2.09. Some application or other activity has added them to your phone.

And just to see what effect they might have, I added "Spk Volume" to the AudioGateway section of my registry. I tested my bluetooth headset with the setting at "1" and again with it at "10", and I could detect no difference in level at all between the two. My calls sounded exactly the same as when I had no entry there at all.

So I don't know what those entries do in your phone, but it's quite clear that they don't have any impact on the bluetooth call volume in mine. You may want to do some additional testing.

They were in my registry so if they're not native, they must be associated with my headset (moto S9), which makes sense since there's only mic and speaker volume to adjust in the headset. Definitely made a difference for me, people ask me to speak quieter now because I'm too loud.

I've tried these with WM5 and now WM6 on the Treo 750. Increasing the bitrate slows down the 750 too much for example if you're browsing the web while listening..it intreprets a single button press as multiple for example (end up scrolling way past where you meant to), so the settings there are about right. Also, on WM6, the UseJointStereo is set properly while on WM5 it wasn't... YMMV

HTC volume problems

Please forgive me but I have a new HTC Mogul and very disappointed with all volumes on speaker phone, earpiece, and bluetooth devices, on both in and out going. I am not software savy. Can someone give me step by step hacks on improving the above issues ASAP before I have to decide to return the phone ? Ive turned up everything I can find on the settings and I've gone thru 4 earpiece designs. Currently I have a Plantronics bluetooth which has somewhat of a boom mic but the wife would like to stay with the moto bud which has no boom at all (I was very disappointed with the vols on it & we were constantly having to repeat and many times so I just hung up) thanks

One interesting tidbit about my Titan is when I looked for the settings for the
Micvolume or spkvolumn, they aren't in those locations. HELP:scratch:

Please note that I just found these on other forums and take no responsibility for loss of hearing related to these hacks. Remember to always back up your registry before making any changes so you can go back if things get messed up. If you don't know how to back it up you should not be messing with it...if you want to risk it I use PHM reg editor (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/).

1-Change Bluetooth headphones from mono to stereo:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2 DP\Settings\UseJointStereo
(DWORD:0)(Default is 1)

[joint stereo is really mono]

2-Increase the bitrate for A2DP:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\Bi tPool (DWORD:50)(default is 30)

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\Ma xSupportedBitPool (DWORD:50)(default is 30)

[I actually set these both to 80 without issues.]

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\BtA2dpSnd
Add Key 'Priority256' (DWORD:60)

[key was not on my machine by default and I'm not really sure what this does]

3-Increase Audiogateway capability:

HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Bluetooth/AudioGateway/Capability
(Dword:69)(Default is 37)

[I'm assuming this is a bitrate setting, but not sure how this differs from those above]

4-Change the Bluetooth channel from the default:

HKLM\Softare\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Device

From there open the subfolders and find those labeled channel. The DWORD key value is the channel number. Change the number to something other than the default.

[i've only tested up to channel 7 because I'm not sure how many channels there are. This seems to have improved issues with interference and intermittent drops, but these issues seem to have more to do with where the device is in relation to the headphones than anything else. You'll have to experiment to see what works best with your gear and environment.]

5-Increase the Bluetooth microphone sensitivity:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\Mic Volume
(DWORD:10)(Default:5)

6-Increase Bluetooth earpiece volume:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\Spk Volume
(DWORD:10)(Default:5)

[again experiment to see what works best with your headset and environment]

I'll keep testing as long as I'm commuting. Let me know if you know what some of these do or your expereience with them and I'll update as I get more info.

Thank you sooo much! I have a Treo 800w with a Jabra BT3030 and the stereo sound was poppy/crackly on my phone. Worked fine on my PC, so I knew it had to be a registry setting in WM. Changed the two values to 80 and viola! Thanks again!

P.S. Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I figured since it worked for me, maybe someone else will find this useful.
